TAMPA BAY ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPRECIATION LUNCHEON
The Tampa Bay Advisory Committee hosted an ‘Appreciation Luncheon’ recently at the Robert W. Saunders Library. The event was held to show appreciation to members of the committee for its services, those who volunteer and to recognize minority businesses. CLASSMATES FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL UNITE AT 50-YEAR REUNION
The Middleton High School Class of 1966 held its 50-year reunion recently with several activities at the DoubleTree Hotel. Many of those in the class were classmates from elementary school at College Hill Elementary to Middleton High School. CDC OF TAMPA, INC. HOSTS LEADERSHIP TRAINING
The Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc. hosted a Leadership Training in conjunction with the City of Tampa’s Clean City Youth Employment Program. MORE THAN 300 MEN ATTEND CONFERENCE HOSTED BY COLLEGE HILL COGIC
College Hill Church of God in Christ, Superintendent Charles Davis, Pastor, hosted more than 300 men on Saturday, June 25, 2016, during a Men’s Conference. The conference was held at the College Hill Conference Center. The featured guest for the conference was Pinellas County Commissioner Kenneth Welch, who was the speaker. PEACE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH HOSTS ORDINATION SERVICE
Church members, family and friends joined Minister Antione Davis and Brother Ricky Banks for their Ordination Service last Saturday, June 25th at Peace Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. Minister Davis was elevated to Reverend and Brother Banks became a Deacon. Reverend Albert Gallmon, Jr., Pastor, conducted the service. The Rev. W. L. FRATERNITY ENDS MENTORING PROGRAM
WITH AWARDS CEREMONY
Recently, member of Pi Iota Chapter, of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., held their end-of-year mentoring program with an awards ceremony. The awards ceremony was held at Just Elementary School on June 2, 2016. The young men earned awards ranging from footballs to bicycles for their participation in the Fraternity’s Gentlemen’s Challenge. The Challenge included such acts as opening doors for young ladies and just being a gentleman in the community. BROTHERS UNITED HOSTS FATHER2SON CONVERSATION
Several men in the community joined Jalem Robinson, founder of Brothers United Building Brothers Alliance (BUBBA), last Saturday for the third session in a series of “Father2Son: Crucial Conversations.” The event was held at Hillsborough Community College Ybor Campus. Robinson is a graduate of the University of South Florida and a native of Progress Village. The third session, “What Now,” provided a resource fair, panel discussion and inspirational speakers. SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY HONORS OLDEST, ACTIVE MEMBER
The Senior Adult Ministry (SAM) of Allen Temple AME Church observed their 21st Anniversary on Sunday, May 29, 2016, during the 10 a. m. service. The highlight of the service was honoring its oldest, active member, Sister Voncile Dry. Sister Dry, seated center, is 109 years old and affectionately known as “Aunt Vonnie.” She is a member of Mt. KAPPA SILHOUETTES RECOGNIZE GWEN MILLER, DONATE BOOKS TO CENTER BEARING HER NAME
The Tampa Chapter of the Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. recognized retired educator and former Tampa City Councilwoman Gwendolyn (Gwen) Miller for her work with the national auxiliary (Immediate Past National President) by donating books to the center in East Tampa that bears her name – the Gwendolyn Miller Community Center. The Tampa Silhouettes donated hundreds of books to the center. Book donations came from all over, including textbook publishers in Orlando and from Ft. Washington, Maryland.
