MEDICAL FACILITY CELEBRATES ITS FIRST ANNIVERSARY

            Recently, members of the community gathered to acknowledge and celebrate the first anniversary of Healthy Bodies Medical & Dental Center. The celebration was held at the business, located at 3415 Brook Crossing Drive, in Brandon. Dr. Watson Ducatel, a medical physician, and his wife, Dr. Martha Ducatel, who is a dentist, combined their practices because oftentimes, dental problems affects a person’s overall health. The anniversary celebration was well attended. MIDDLETON CLASSES GET TO ENJOY PROM THEY NEVER HAD

  Maybe it was not what it would have been more than 40 years ago, but the group in attendance enjoyed it. The Middleton High School Classes of 1972 and 1973 were so devastated that they had to leave their beloved school after the 1971 school year, due to integration. Many of the students were deprived of the opportunity to go to their prom. Forty-six years later, there was the opportunity to attend the prom. The event was held on June 29, 2018, and according to Joseph Garvin, ‘it was a success.’ Entitled ‘The Prom We Never Had…Until Now,’ the event was held at the Tampa Heights Junior Civic Center, hosted by Elegant Events. The group even crowned a King and Queen – Alfred Pyles and Barbara Shazer.  Among those who attended the prom were: kneeling: Alfred Pyles and Reginald Brown. HARRAM COURT NO. 96 HOSTS COMMANDRESS BALL

         The Daughters of Harram Court No. 96 hosted its 35^thAnnual Illustrious Commandress Ball, “An Evening of Elegant Rubies and Pearls.” The event was held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in honor of Daughter Andreatha L. Nurse, the Illustrious Commandress. Daughters in attendance: Bertha Baker, Betty Baker, Helen Bell, Cynthia Bowden-Jolly, Rhuetelia Bradford, Eunice Butts, Audrey Colston, Davina Drayton, Cherlyn Hemmingway, Bernice McFadden, Greta Powell, Juanita Robinson, Bessie Thomas, Claretha Witherspoon, Charlene Hall, Alicia Haynes, Selena Lemons, Sonya McFadden, Tawanda Peoples, Iris Warren and Gail Williams.  Special guests joining the ladies were: Daughters Paula Green and Commandress Danielle Allen, of Jacksonville, No. 25; and Daughter Delya Johnson of Kentucky, No. 58. TAMPA BAY JUNETEENTH COALITION HOSTS FIRST ‘MISS JUNETEENTH’ PAGEANT

         The Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition held its First Annual “Miss Juneteenth” Pageant. The event was held on June 22, 2018, at TPepin Hospitality Centre. Miss Adria Johnson was coordinator of the event. The crown was bestowed upon Miss Cloe Jones. Among the program participants were, from left to right: News Channel 8 Anchor, Rod Carter, who hosted the event; Jessie Quinn, Pastor Celeste Battle, who spearheaded the Juneteenth Awards Banquet; Minister Janice Nunn-Nelson, a judge for the event; April Luriu, judge, a former queen; Juneteenth Board member, Norma Pierce; Pastor Philetha Tucker-Johnson, President, Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition; and Jorad Holmes, judge for the pageant.

ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC., GOLDEN SORORS AND SILVER STARS HONORED

         Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Theta Omega Chapter, honored its Silver (25) and Gold (50) members on Sunday, July 1, 2018. The elegant event was held at Embassy Suites by Hilton – University of South Florida. TAMPA COALITION OF 100 BLACK WOMEN PRESENTS SCHOLARSHIPS

            The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Tampa Chapter, held its 26^thAnnual Gourmet Gents: “A Culinary Affair” on Sunday, June 24, 2018. The event was held at Higgins Hall. Proceeds from this event provide scholarships to young ladies. This year 8 ladies received scholarships. They are: Connisha Broughton, Gelisa Evans,  Adesuwa “Desu” Imudia, Nyani Mason, Tia Dotson, Leilanie Roberts, Alberta Simmons, and RoAnn Waterman. FRATERNITY CELEBRATES 90^th ANNIVERSARY WITH LUNCHEON 

            The Tampa Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., held its 90^thAnniversary Luncheon recently at the Bryan Glazer Family Jewish Community Center. NEW BETHEL PROGRESSIVE M. B. CHURCH CEREMONY DEDICATES NEW SANCTUARY

            The Pastor, Rev. Reginal Webb, his wife, Mrs. Deborah Webb, members and friends of New Bethel Progressive Missionary Baptist Church gathered on the evening of June 12, 2018, to dedicate their new sanctuary. Formerly at 3011 E. North Bay St., the new building will be located at 2911 E. North Bay. Celebrating 92 years of continuous service to the community, the building is scheduled for completion by November 2018. DERRICK BROOKS CHARITIES TAKES YOUTH TO NATIONAL CONFERENCE

The Derrick Brooks Charities Youth Program took 15 teens to the National conference On The Prevention Of Crime In The Black Community. ” The 33rd annual event was held in Jacksonville. Young ladies from the Derrick Brooks Charities Rites Of Passage Program pose with executive Director Darrell Daniels, who presides over the Plenary Session of the conference. They are: Arjenayh Pewu, LaSarah Hargrove, India Green, India Philon, Darrell Daniels, Zakaya Green, Kai’Ziana Owens, Tamia Brooks and Racine Seide.
