‘ANNUAL CUDDLE UP AND READ’ PROGRAM HELD

 

            On Saturday, April 14th, Ms. Cora Dunkley held her 5thAnnual “Cuddle Up And Read” Program. The well attended event was held at Seminole Heights Library, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Several families and volunteers were on hand to motivate children to read everyday. The children participated in several activities that involved reading and learned about Dr. George Washington Carver, who was the focal point of the event. Each child received a new book at the end of the event. Ms. Dunkley was assisted by Ms. Maxine Davis in making the program possible. MIDDLETON HIGH STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL COLLEGE SIGNING DAY

 

         Wednesday, April 11, 2018 was National College Signing Day. Middleton High School held two events to recognize its Third Annual National Signing Day. The events were held in the Henry “Shake” Washington Auditorium. The event on April 11thwas for students who signed to attend Hillsborough Community College (HCC). The event on Friday, April 13thwas for students signing with other colleges. FRATERNITY RECEIPIENT OF PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS

Recently, members of the Tampa Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., gathered in Mobile, Alabama for their 68thSouthern Province Council Meeting. Last Saturday, the Tampa Alumni Chapter was honored when the “Southern Province Chapter Of The Year”Award and the “Reclamation Chapter Of The Year”Awards were bestowed upon them. CEREMONY HELD FOR LEGACY WALL DEDICATION

 

            On April 6th, members of the community gathered at Booker T. Washington Elementary School for the Legacy Wall Dedication Ceremony.  The purpose of the Wall is to showcase the history of the school and highlight some of its students from throughout the year. Some information about the original Booker T. Washington High School was taken from a 1931 Yearbook donated to the school. The event was well attended by former students such as Mrs. Doris Ross Reddick and Mr. James Hammond, both of whom are featured on the Wall. Among those in attendance were student participants: Jahquez Louis, Kimberly Hernandez, and Briana House, shown on the front row from left to right. Shown on the second row from left to right are : Ms. Jaime Gerding, Principal of Booker T. TAMPA CHAPTER OF THE LINKS HOSTS CAREER DAY FOR RADIANT JEWELS AT VAN BUREN

 

         The Tampa Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, hosted Career Day for their mentoring group, the Radiant Jewels, at Van Buren Middle School on Wednesday, March 28th. The mentoring group represents chosen 8th grade girls who are about to transition to high school. Fourteen professions were represented at Career Day, chaired by Link Kay Andrews. Link Ozepher Wilds is the Services To Youth Facet Chair and Link Renee Lee is President.  Van Buren staffers, Mrs Cynthia Forward, Student Success Coach and Mrs. ….. Cannedy, ….. are supervisors. YOUNG MEN ATTEND BLACK BROWN AND COLLEGE BOUND LUNCHEON

         Black and Brown young men from around the country were in Tampa this week for Hillsborough Community College’s Black Brown And College Brown Sylvia Marion Carley Signature Luncheon. The event was held on Monday, March 26th at the Tampa Convention Center. The guest speaker was former NFL Player and TV personality, Michael Strahan.
