HARRAM COURT NO. 96 HOSTS COMMANDRESS BALL

         The Daughters of Harram Court No. 96 hosted its 35thAnnual Illustrious Commandress Ball, “An Evening of Elegant Rubies and Pearls.” The event was held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in honor of Daughter Andreatha L. Nurse, the Illustrious Commandress. Daughters in attendance: Bertha Baker, Betty Baker, Helen Bell, Cynthia Bowden-Jolly, Rhuetelia Bradford, Eunice Butts, Audrey Colston, Davina Drayton, Cherlyn Hemmingway, Bernice McFadden, Greta Powell, Juanita Robinson, Bessie Thomas, Claretha Witherspoon, Charlene Hall, Alicia Haynes, Selena Lemons, Sonya McFadden, Tawanda Peoples, Iris Warren and Gail Williams.  Special guests joining the ladies were: Daughters Paula Green and Commandress Danielle Allen, of Jacksonville, No. 25; and Daughter Delya Johnson of Kentucky, No. 58. TAMPA BAY JUNETEENTH COALITION HOSTS FIRST ‘MISS JUNETEENTH’ PAGEANT

 

         The Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition held its First Annual “Miss Juneteenth” Pageant. The event was held on June 22, 2018, at TPepin Hospitality Centre. Miss Adria Johnson was coordinator of the event. The crown was bestowed upon Miss Cloe Jones. Among the program participants were, from left to right: News Channel 8 Anchor, Rod Carter, who hosted the event; Jessie Quinn, Pastor Celeste Battle, who spearheaded the Juneteenth Awards Banquet; Minister Janice Nunn-Nelson, a judge for the event; April Luriu, judge, a former queen; Juneteenth Board member, Norma Pierce; Pastor Philetha Tucker-Johnson, President, Tampa Bay Juneteenth Coalition; and Jorad Holmes, judge for the pageant.

The elegant event was held at Embassy Suites by Hilton – University of South Florida. TAMPA COALITION OF 100 BLACK WOMEN PRESENTS SCHOLARSHIPS

            

            The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Tampa Chapter, held its 26thAnnual Gourmet Gents: “A Culinary Affair” on Sunday, June 24, 2018. The event was held at Higgins Hall. Proceeds from this event provide scholarships to young ladies. This year 8 ladies received scholarships. They are: Connisha Broughton, Gelisa Evans,  Adesuwa “Desu” Imudia, Nyani Mason, Tia Dotson, Leilanie Roberts, Alberta Simmons, and RoAnn Waterman. NEW BETHEL PROGRESSIVE M. B. CHURCH CEREMONY DEDICATES NEW SANCTUARY

  

            The Pastor, Rev. Reginal Webb, his wife, Mrs. Deborah Webb, members and friends of New Bethel Progressive Missionary Baptist Church gathered on the evening of June 12, 2018, to dedicate their new sanctuary. Formerly at 3011 E. North Bay St., the new building will be located at 2911 E. North Bay. Celebrating 92 years of continuous service to the community, the building is scheduled for completion by November 2018. Those who attended the Dedication Ceremony were: kneeling left to right, Deacon Joseph Rankin, Dea. Herbert Rahmings, III, and Minister Joe Lewis. Standing left to right: Dea. Rudy Garrett, Dea. The Derrick Brooks Charities Youth Program took 15 teens to the National conference On The Prevention Of Crime In The Black Community. ” The 33rd annual event was held in Jacksonville. Young ladies from the Derrick Brooks Charities Rites Of Passage Program pose with executive Director Darrell Daniels, who presides over the Plenary Session of the conference. They are: Arjenayh Pewu, LaSarah Hargrove, India Green, India Philon, Darrell Daniels, Zakaya Green, Kai’Ziana Owens, Tamia Brooks and Racine Seide.

TAMPA POLICE DISTRICT III MEETS WITH TAMPA PARK APARTMENTS

After a rash of drive-by shootings, that led to arrests, the major, captain and officers of District III held a meeting with the owners, management, security, resident captains and residents of the Tampa Park Apartments to share the strategy and implementation of plans to have a Safe Summer Campaign. The law enforcement officials met with the Tampa Park principles along with the president of the NAACP at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Branch Library on Tuesday, June 12th. The meeting was very productive. Some of those in attendance were from left: Security for Tampa Park,  Bangor Security guards, Nakeria Harris and Raheem Pontiflet; TPD Major Rocky Ratliff, Tampa Park Board member, Otis Jacobs, Sgt. Danny Rhodes, Tampa Park Property Manager, Yolanda Amos, NAACP President Yvette Lewis and Tampa Park Board member, Paul Hayes. CITY OF TAMPA BLACK HISTORY COMMITTEE PRESENTS $16,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS

 

             The City of Tampa Black History Committee presented $16,000 in scholarships to the 2018 graduates. Over the past 21 years, the group has awarded $201,000 in scholarships.  The Awards Ceremony was held at the Holiday Inn Express, Westshore Blvd.  This year’s theme was: “”Reflecting On Our Past, Moving Towards TheFuture.
