HOWARD W. BLAKE CLASS OF 1971 CELEBRATES 40 YEARS

The Howard W. Blake “Soulful Class” Of 1971 celebrated their 40th-year reunion last month at the Cruis-A-Cade. They started on Thursday with “Hospitality Night” and concluded the following Thursday with a “Spaghetti Dinner Celebration” at the home of Yvonne Glasgow.  Classmates came from as far as California and Virginia and as close as Ft. Myers and West Palm Beach, Florida. BAY AREA MEDICAL ASSOCIATION HOLDS QUARTERLY MEETING

Bay Area Medical Association (BAMA) held its quarterly meeting Wednesday at the Rusty Pelican Restaurant. Three speakers addressed the medical professionals and their guests. PRESIDING ELDER’S APPRECIATION CELEBRATION SERVICE

The “Tremendous” Tampa District hosted an Appreciation Celebration Service on Sunday, August 28, 2011 for their Presiding Elder, Rev. Dr. Henry E. Green, Jr. The service was held at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev. Michael B. Price as host pastor. Many of the churches in the “Tremendous” Tampa District were in attendance. The guest speaker was Rev. Dr. Henry J. Lyons, Pastor/Teacher of New Salem M. B. Church. The Allen Temple membership posed with the Presiding Elder after the service. The Gospel Music Workshop of America held its convention in Tampa last week with several gospel greats in attendance. During the week, the Music and Christian Arts Ministry of Allen Temple AME Church held its first Community Music Workshop with Rev. Raymond Wise, Ph.D., of Columbus, Ohio as the facilitator. At the conclusion of the 3-day workshop, a concert was held Sunday afternoon featuring the Tampa Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. MIDDLETON HIGH CLASS OF 1961 HAS ‘FABULOUS 50th’ REUNION

The Middleton High Class of 1961 celebrated its 50th class reunion at the Airport Hilton Westshore July 22-29, 2011. The reunion was dedicated to the parents of the class. After the Tampa activities, the class journeyed to Washington, D. C. Ralph Rance was the General Chairperson. The Maroon and Gold Banquet was attended by many guests, including former teachers and the Blake High family.

FAMILY MATRIARCH CELEBRATES 90th BIRTHDAY WITH PARTY

    Mrs. Ruth Walker celebrated her 90th birthday recently with a birthday party with family, friends, and neighbors. The party was held at the University Area Community Development Corporation, 14013 North 22nd Street, on July 16th. Mrs. Walker is the mother of two; grandmother of 4; great grandmother of 5; and she has 8 great, great grandchildren. Mrs. Walker, arrived at the party in style, accompanied by four escorts. They were: Gavin Harris, Robert Jacobs, Jr., Jerome Jacobs, and David Fraticelli. After the sit down dinner and dancing, her family honored her wish of riding in a convertible. Joe Harney drove her home in a 2010 Audi Convertible with the top down.

A TRIBUTE TO THE MAN, THE MUSIC AND THE MESSAGE

    An overflow crowd was at Bible-Based Fellowship Church of Carrollwood on Sunday afternoon. Gospel recording artists from around the country were in town to pay tribute to “Rev. Arthur T. Jones: The Man, The Music, The Message.” The 63-year-old pastor, author, songwriter, Stellar Awards nominee and Grammy nominee has been battling cancer for several months.
