Veronica York, Kendra Revear and other family members of Walter “JJ” Revear are still trying to deal with his death. Revear was gunned down outside the Interstate Lounge on May 18th. He reportedly fell into the arms of his sister, Kendra, immediately after he was shot. Police have charged Jimmy Cruz in the shooting.

“We’re still trying to get over JJ not being around anymore,” said Kendra. “He was so upbeat and positive about his future, and now he’s gone. It’s tough to move on after that.”

On Father’s Day, the family tried to ease their sorrow with a Father’s day bash at Kendra’s home on Columbus Drive. Her uncle, Benjamin York, was there along with other family members.

An incident started during the party, and York went outside to calm one of the people down who had been involved.

Tampa Police reported that York had approached the car of a man who was leaving, trying to calm him down. As a result, York was hit and dragged 420 feet by the driver. Police have not made any arrests in the case.

According to Kendra, her uncle suffered severe burns, lost an ear, and has several broken ribs.[private]

“But, he’s alive, and that’s the important thing. It’s hard trying to deal with the death of someone close to you when you almost have to deal with it happening to another relative. The entire incident shook us all.”

Kendra said her uncle is recovering in the hospital, but the family is weary and trying to draw strength from the older members.

“We really need the guidance of our elders right now. This is the time when their wisdom will come in handy, and help us get through this near tragedy and the lost of JJ.”

Kendra said she and other family members plan on attending every hearing involving JJ’s shooter.[/private]
