Family Feels Woman’s Death In Fire Is Suspicious

On the morning of May 1st, a fire was reported at the Terrace Square Apartments on 59th Street and 122nd Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they reported seeing flames at the building. They were also told a man managed to escape the fire that broke out at 6 a. m., and they didn’t know until after the fire was out that a woman and a dog were dead inside.

The woman was identified as 37-year-old Katrina Colbert, and the incident is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Family members of Ms. Colbert said they believe there’s more to what happened, and the true story hasn’t been told.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Deputy Larry McKinnon, said they are currently conducting an active death investigation.

Dep. McKinnon asks that anyone who has information about the fire, please call (813) 247-8651.

Family members of Ms. Colbert have asked for assistance in making arrangements for a funeral.
