After an extensive interview Monday, Tampa Police have charged Jason Smith, 30, with first-degree murder.

Police said Smith was the man seen on surveillance footage getting out of a vehicle, walking over to the vehicle of Michael Smith Ayuso, 39, and shooting him to death.

The incident occurred Sunday evening when Smith, the passenger in a vehicle, pulled into the parking lot of a business at Kentucky Avenue and Florida Avenue. Police said Smith waited 21 minutes for Ayuso’s vehicle to arrive in the area.

A surveillance camera of a nearby business captured the shooting.  Detectives said Smith identified himself as the person in the video, and witnesses also identified Smith and placed him at the scene of the crime.
