On Wednesday evening, members of the family and friends gathered at the Tampa Park Plaza Community Center for the presentation of the First Annual Community Impact Awards. Established by freshman State Representative Ed Narain, the awards recognized four Hillsborough County residents who have made lasting contributions to their respective communities. Shown from left to right are: Attorney Warren Hope Dawson, a practicing attorney and pioneer of the Civil Rights Movement; retired Attorney Delano Stewart, who was also active in the Civil Rights Movement and the first African American attorney to practice in Hillsborough County, State Representative Ed Narain, Ms. Shirley Griffin, a long time community activist in Progress Village, and James Hargrett, Jr., the first African American from Hillsborough County to serve as a State Representative and State Senator.
