A 24-year-old man is being held for the murder of his former girlfriend. Police said the man, identified as Manuel Santiago, entered the apartment of Ms. Taneka Humphrey, 27, using a key early Saturday morning.

He is alleged to have killed Ms. Humphrey as she slept.  A witness at the apartment told police he heard the noise and observed Santiago standing next to the bed with a knife in his hand. Blood was also coming from his neck.

Police later discovered Santiago had cut his own throat in an attempted suicide and was hospitalized.
