Runs Over Woman, Held For Attempted Murder

A 26-year-old man was arrested early Monday and charged with attempted murder. He allegedly struck one woman with his vehicle and attempted to strike another.

According to police, Ms. Tiara Jelks, 21, was at her residence in the 5600 block of Williams Grant Way, when she heard a vehicle approach. She told police an acquaintance, Devin Scriven, was in the vehicle.

Ms. Jelks walked outside and told Scriven he needed to leave. However, Scriven is alleged to have revved the motor of his vehicle and attempted to strike Ms. Jelks with it, but she jumped out of the way, police said.

Scriven is alleged to have remained outside and a few minutes later, Ms. Jelks’ mother, Ms. Debra Jelks, reportedly went outside and asked him to leave and they reportedly exchanged words.

Scriven is accused of again revving the motor of the [private]vehicle and is alleged to have struck Ms. Debra Jelks with it. He is also accused of then jumping out of his vehicle and jumped on Ms. Debra Jelks. At that point, her daughter came out of the house with a crowbar and Scriven fled the scene, police said.

The women contacted police and Scriven was arrested in 11600 block of Grove Lane. He was charged with attempted premeditated murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and battery. He is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail without bond. [/private]
