Tampa Police detectives were investigating the Wednesday night shooting of a man just east of Nebraska Avenue.

Police said at 10:17 p. m., officers responded to 1006 East 22nd Avenue on a call of a person being shot. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in front of the residence. A suspect [private]wearing dark clothing was seen running from the scene.

The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in critical condition and his injuries are considered to be life threatening.

The victim was later identified as Walter L. Wright, 59.

Officers later arrested a suspect in the shooting and identified him as Eugene S. Harris, Jr., 34.

Harris was identified by a witness running from the scene following the shooting and was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Detectives have not established a motive for the shooting, and their investigation is continuing.[/private]
