The Hillsborough County Democratic Black Caucus and the Tampa Bay Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women host a ‘Candidates’ Forum in Your Community!’ Please plan to attend the event on Thursday, August 2, 2012, 6 P. M., at the HOPE Community Center (4902 N. 22ND Street – across from Middleton High School).
The candidates for the following races have been confirmed: State Representative District 61, Supervisor of Elections, School Board Members (District 5, 7, 3 and 1) and County Court Judges.
The forum will be moderated by Atty. Sean Shaw with the following panelists: Melanie Alvin, Mark Beiro, Jean Cocco, Tim Heberlin, Dr. Joan Holmes, Don Lee, Marvin Martin, Sr., Cedric McCray, Edwin Narain, Michelle Patty and Essie Sims, Jr.
Citizens need to be prepared to cast votes for the August 14, 2012 Primary Election. Community members will have the opportunity to submit their questions for the panelists to ask the candidates.
Early voting at designated Libraries began July 30, 2012and will continue until August 11, 2012.
If you choose to Vote by Mail for the Primary Election, please remember that the Supervisor of Elections office must “receive” your ballot by August 14, 2012.
Ms. Dianne Hart, HCDBC President, stated that it is critical that your signature is updated on your voter registration file at the Supervisor of Elections office. As voters get older their signatures change.
Among the objectives of the Hillsborough County Democratic Black Caucus are to encourage qualified citizens in becoming candidates for public office, and to support and solicit support for legislation and governmental action on national, state, county and local levels which will reflect the best interest of the people in the respective areas.
Mrs. Janice London, President of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the NCBW, stated that although the National Coalition of 100 Black Women is not a political organization, they understand the importance of voter education and awareness and the need for our community to vote in every election.
