In an unbelievably dangerous statement, Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta actor, Lil’ Scrappy, said that he was glad that Frank Ocean admitted his bi-sexuality, so “all the real women that love to mess with real men, straight men, we can keep the AIDS situation down, you feel me?”

Scrappy went even further with his opinion, saying that “[homosexuality] is a doorway to AIDS, scientifically.”

There are several reasons that this is an exceptionally uninformed “scientific” statement. Though homosexual men are at higher risk for contracting HIV, the virus which can lead to AIDS, the primary cause of its transmission is unprotected sex — gay, straight, bi or try anything risky sex. Whether a man is “in the closet” gay or not, if protection is used then the woman is more protected with him than with a straight man who refuses to wear protection.

Responsible sex is the key to reduced cases of HIV/AIDS, not homophobic scare tactics.
