Jury selection began Monday in the second-degree murder trial of 53-year-old Kenneth Shivers.

Shivers was arrested September 4, 2010 for the stabbing death of 48-year-old Wanda Smith, a mother of three and a grandmother.

Authorities said Smith was stabbed in her home in the 3900 block of East Chelsea. Family members rushed her to the hospital, but she died a short time later.

Shivers, who was Smith’s boyfriend, was arrested as he was leaving her home.
