Parents & Children Advance Together (PCAT) Literacy Ministries, Inc. is expanding its reading program at Sulphur Springs Elementary School.
The program will expand from two days a week to five days a week, providing more tutoring and one-on-one time with children needing help.
Students are selected based on school or teacher recommendations and referred to the program.
Students are then assessed by PCAT certified teachers and provided with an Individual Lesson Plan.
Parents are required to aid in the lesson plan by reading at home with children and encouraging reading in different environments.
PCAT provides parental instruction to best facilitate the lessons in the home.
“This year we received an increase in grant funding from the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation and the Children’s Board. These funders allow us to provide programming at no cost to our families,” said Moise.
“With increased funding we are now able to have students attend five days a week. Previously students attended twice a week. This increase in time helps to facilitate greater learning progress and growth for our students.”
“We are also collaborating with parents to help them
learn how to encourage and help their students. We are now able to accept students with disabilities. We empower them to learn in environments that support them in their learning needs,” stressed Moise.
mentioned that PCAT needs volunteers for support roles and tutoring.
