Dorothy: ‘Then, Now, And Next’ Explores Life With A Remix

DORIS O. COLE

By MONIQUE STAMPS

Sentinel Staff Writer

Doris Cole, a retired grandmother has loved relating her life to her favorite book/movie, The Wizard of Oz.

The story of a young woman swept away by a tornado and her later adventures seemed to reflect life, and not just in Kansas.

The heroine and her friends’ journey on the yellow brick road were a case of overcoming hardships and roadblocks.

Cole’s new book, Dorothy: Then, Now, And Next, explores the life changes that mark Dorothy’s world and relates it to her own walk with the Lord.

“Dorothy started her life one way, but a storm changed her whole world. You never knew where life will lead you,” says Cole.

The book is a remix,  taking the traditional story of Dorothy and Toto and relating the lessons they learned to our own lives and journeys with God.

“Dorothy’s life was full of disruptions as she becomes aware that people, seasons, places, and things change. The one thing that doesn’t change is Jesus. He is the same today, tomorrow, and forever,” relates Cole.

Cole refers to herself as a Dorothy. Like Dorothy, Cole’s circle of life has illustrated the internal struggles. As she went full circle in her own life, Cole believes that for herself, the full circle has led her to where God wants her to be.

She relied on her faith when authoring her book. She walked out on faith, overcoming anxiety and distractions to what God told her to do.

Cole

is the mother of two, and grandmother of three.
