On Sunday, police responded to a shooting that took place early in the morning. Police responded to the calls for help around 3 a.m.
According to Tampa Police, officers began the investigation shortly before 3:00 a.m., they responded to the 500 block of S. Howard Avenue.
Upon arrival at the location of the shooting and based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that the three people injured were known to each other and had previously interacted with one another. Prior to shots being fired, the three adult men were engaged in a dispute that then escalated.
Officers assigned to the SOHO area were already on scene at the time of the incident as they were assigned to disburse the crowd.
As a result of the shooting, two of the men died as a result of their injuries. Those two subjects have been identified and their next of kin have been notified. They have been identified as 28-year-old Kenneth Washington and 24-year-old Kevon Christmas.
A third shooting victim remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives are working diligently to identify the suspect involved in the accident.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said, “My thoughts are with the loved ones impacted by this violence, especially on a day like today,”
“Our officers, detectives, and crime scene technicians have been working tirelessly to gather any available evidence and leads in this case.”
