HISTORY RESTORED BY HOWARD W. BLAKE CLASS OF 1970
Members of the Howard W. Blake Class of 1970 recently celebrated their 50th Class Reunion virtually. As part of this momentous occasion, members of the 1969-70 Class A Divisional Championship football team secured and replaced the trophy that was discarded, along with other artifacts from the school, when the school became a middle school. The football team’s record stayed in place for thirty-four years until another Tampa Bay area team won the title.
To commemorate this legacy, football team members and classmates presented the trophy to the current Howard W. Blake High School Principal, Jessie Salter, so that this historical artifact will forever be a visible reminder of the rich legacy of the fighting Yellow Jackets. Football team members attending the presentation were: first row, Herman James, Freddie Everhart, Jonas Harris, and Lonnie Houston; 2nd row, Henry Cummings, Charles McDonald, Willie Johnson, Ronnie Cole, Andre Hill, Lionel Ballard; and Jessie Salter, Principal of Blake High School.
