COALITION OF CLERGY HOSTS UNITY PRAYER VIGIL
In wake of the recent rash of violence throughout the nation, the Tampa Bay Coalition of Clergy hosted a Unity Prayer Vigil on Monday, August 8th for slain police officers and victims. The vigil was held at Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church, with Rev. Dr. David Green as host pastor. The vigil was co-hosted by Rev. Dr. W. James Favorite, Pastor of Beulah Baptist Institutional Church and President of Pastors on Patrol; and Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Banks, Pastor, St. John Progressive M. B. Church and President, Progressive M & E Baptist State Convention of Florida, Inc. Bishop Thomas Scott is Chairman of the Tampa Bay Coalition of Clergy. Pastors who attended the vigil included: Rev. Belmont Heights Little League 1970 All-Star Team Honored
Members of the Belmont Heights Little League 1970 All-Star Team were recently honored and included as part of the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball History Series documentary. Several members of the team were on hand to share their memories of how that team changed history and broke the color barrier when they integrated Little League Baseball in the South by placing in the Little League Baseball Southern Regional Competition. Members of the 1970 Belmont Heights Little League team who attended the filming of the documentary were from left to right: Charlie Davis, Nino Austin, Herbert Green, Ronald Harvin and James Walker.

RETIREMENT RECEPTION HONORS ATTORNEY DELANO S. STEWART
The Delano Stewart Retirement Reception Host Committee, George Edgecomb Bar Association, Tampa Organization of Black Affairs (TOBA) and the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter of the National Bar Association hosted a reception honoring the retirement of Attorney Delano Stewart. HOWARD W. BLAKE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1966 ENJOYS 50th REUNION
The Howard W. Blake High School Class of 1966 held its 50-year Class Reunion at the Causeway DoubleTree. The weekend was filled with several events, from a “Meet-And-Greet” to a worship service. WOMEN’S COUNCIL OF REALTORS HOSTS MEMBERSHIP SOCIAL

Organization Presents Scholarships To Graduates
Members of the Brothers of the Pi Iota Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., recently presented scholarships to three recent high school graduates. Each of the recipients, who received a $2,000 scholarship, have been accepted and enrolled in an institution of higher learning. Donte’ Glover, who graduated from Howard W. Blake High School, will attend Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri; Jordan A. Robinson, a graduate of Gaither High School, will attend Florida A & M University, in Tallahassee, FL; and Riverview High School graduate Kenneth Forward, III, who will attend Morehouse College, in Atlanta, GA. The presentation took place at Bethel A. M. E. Church during their Men’s Day Program. FRANKLIN BOYS PREPARATORY ACADEMY HOSTS ANNUAL CHESS TOURNAMENT
Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy was the site of the HOST Chess Nuts Society Annual Chess Tournament on Wednesday July 20, 2016. More than 300 HOST (Hillsborough County Public Schools Out-of-School Time Program) students participated in the tournament held in the school’s gym. HOST is designed to assist families with a safe and supervised environment before and after school hours. Joshua Johnson, K-2nd grade participant, 4th from left, was the overall chess winner. COACHES PARTICIPATE IN FREDDIE SOLOMON MEMORIAL YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP
Several community coaches of youth leagues and teams participated recently in the Freddie Solomon Memorial Youth Football Camp. The camp was held on the campus of the University of Tampa, where Solomon played his college football. Professionally, Solomon played for the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers. ‘BLACK LIVES MATTER’ PEACEFUL PROTEST DRAWS LARGE CROWD
Recently, several members of the Tampa community joined members of “Black Lives Matter” at the Centennial Park in Ybor City. The event drew people from all walks of life and many parents brought their children to participate in the event. Some members of the Tampa Police Department rode bicycles while others, such as Lieutenant Rodriguez, walked side-by-side with the marchers. Ms. Donna Davis, one of the organizers of the “Black Lives Matter” organization stated that despite inclement weather, more than 300 people attended the event.
