G. R. I. T. S. HOSTS 7TH CHICKEN WING COOK-OFF
Girls Raised In The South (G. R. I. T. S.) hosted their 7th Annual Ultimate Guys Chicken Wing Cook-Off Charity Fundraiser on Saturday, August 5, 2017. The event was held at the Bounce Boy Event Center, featuring several men from the community. The purpose of this event is to bring together over 200 patrons who feast on a variety of chicken wings that provides financial support for The G. R. I. T. S. youth mentor group scholarship fund. G. VICTORIOUS LIVING 2017 WOMEN’S CONFERENCE

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF COLLEGE HILL HOSTS WOMEN’S CONFERENCE
First Baptist Church of College Hill Women’s Ministry and Young Women’s Ministry hosted its 4th Annual Women’s Conference: Outside the Walls on Saturday, August 12, 2017. The conference was held at the University of South Florida Alumni Center. The theme was “Pearls and Proverbs.” Iris Collins served as the Mistress of Ceremony. FATHERS, FATHER FIGURES JOIN ‘MILLION FATHER MARCH’ AT BROWARD ELEMENTARY
Over the summer, Rennex Franklin, Counselor at Broward Elementary School, was given information from his Principal, Mrs. Angela Livingston, of a national initiative from the Black Star Project – “The Million Father March.” Franklin organized the event and invited fathers and positive father figures to the Broward campus for the first day of school. The gentlemen wanted to encourage and excite the students as they return for the 2017-2018 school year. CHILDREN WITH A VISION, INC. AND PARTNERS HOST BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENT
Last Sunday, August 6, 2017, Ms. Tonya Lewis and her non-profit organization, Children With A Vision, Inc., and several community partners hosted a Back-To-School Giveaway, Fun Day and Health Fair. The 17th annual event was held at Ragan Park. A large crowd came out to take advantage of what was being offered. LADIES OF PURPLE PASSION HOSTS ‘DENIM AND DIAMONDS’ DANCE
The Ladies Of Purple Passion were excited a few weeks ago when they came together for their first fundraiser of the year. It was their “Denim and Diamonds” Dance, held on July 21st at the Kennedy Blvd. American Legion Post. The group of ladies raises funds to support community events throughout the year. FUN IN THE PARK AFTER WEEK OF VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
The 29th Street Church of Christ, Brother Perry Johnson, Minister, held its week of Vacation Bible School last month. Each evening a different topic was discussed. Following a week of studying “Trailblazers For The Faith,” a Family Vacation Bible School Picnic was held at Al Lopez Park. MASONIC TEMPLE PRESENTS SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS
The Harram Temple No. 23, Inc., held its Watts Sanderson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Program recently. The awards ceremony was held at the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County. The guest speaker was Dr. John J. Scrivens, Ph.D. The students graduated in May and are headed to institutions of higher learning.
