The Wallo Line Dancers celebrated their 1st anniversary with a community celebration at a popular restaurant on Harbour Island. The celebration included the making of a video of the newest group of line dancers in the community. Members who participated in the celebration are: Charlene Nelson, Lina E. MIDDLETON HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1960

Last month members of the Middleton High School held their Annual Class Reunion at the Embassy Suite, USF Tampa. The event took place August 10 through August 13, 2017. The theme for the reunion was “Remembering the past, Reflecting upon the Present and Reaching For the Future.” The group of former classmates who graduated 57 years ago, meet every 2 years for a much anticipated class reunion. They travel from various cities throughout the country to show their “Tiger Spirit” during a weekend of fun-filled activities. Among those attending the reunion this year were: Betty Jones, Viola Fitzgerald, Betty White, Delores Hardy, Gerard Williams, Mae Johnson, Louise Favors, Rosetta Barnes, John Price, Ruth Prize, Hazel Brown, Nina Small, Nelson Griffith, Clarence Thomas, Joyce Marshall, Cora Yopp, Robert Williams, Lensy Hardy, Estella Jones, Jacqueline Wilks, and Wilbur Jones. SENIOR CITIZENS TREATED TO LUNCHEON

For the past few years, Janice Nunn-Nelson has hosted a talent program for senior citizens who were once very active in the field of music in various church choirs or as soloists. They are invited to share their talents at a musical for seniors. The event is normally held in the Spring, followed by a luncheon. This year, the talent show was held, but the luncheon was postponed. Evangelist Nunn-Nelson hosted the luncheon last month at Big John’s Bar-B-Que Restaurant.  Those in attendance included from left: Rebecca Evans, Alice C. TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI PREPARED FOR TAMPA CLASSIC

Members of the Tennessee State University (TSU) National Alumni Association held their final planning meeting a few weeks ago to prepare for the Tampa Classic. ’70s OLD SCHOOL DANCE WAS ALL-WHITE AFFAIR

A group of young ladies who were reminiscing the 1970s and their days of growing up in the same community, attending the same schools,  hosted the second ’70s Old School Reunion over the Labor Day weekend. The event was held at on Saturday, Sept. 2nd at the Sons of Italy Hall. Those in attendance enjoyed nothing but music from the 1970 by a popular disc jockey. After the success of the first year’s dance (2016), the ladies decided to do it again and by popular demand, brought it back! Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church held its 2017 Inaugural Image Awards on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Westin Hotel on Harbour Island. The event honored several of the “Community’s Champions of Service.” Reverend Dr. Glenn B. Dames, Jr., Senior Pastor, and his wife, Mrs. Jennifer Dames served as Master and Mistress of Ceremonies.  Among those who received awards in various categories were:

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday, August 31, 2017, for Gardens at Diana Point for new affordable townhouses. The complex will be in the 4400 block of E. Diana Street, near N. 43rd St. The development is one of the project of the Corporation to Develop Communities (CDC) of Tampa, Inc. Several members of the CDC Board participated. AT&T AND FORMER STATE REP ED NARAIN DONATE $18,000

Former State Representative Edwin (Ed) Narain presented a check for $18,000 to the United Way Suncoast. The funds are designated for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. The presentation was made at the East Tampa Wilbert Davis Boys and Girls Club. 450 BOOK BAGS, 800 MEALS PREPARED BY NFL YET CENTER

Several community organizations came together on July 29, 2017 to deliver book bags and lunch to youngsters headed back to school. There were 450 book bags filled with supplies distributed to the youngsters and lunch was served to 800 parents and students. Former Tampa Chief of Police, Eric Ward was also in attendance.
