HOMELESS, COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY
Greater Bethel Missionary Baptist Church hosted its Homeless/Community Service Day earlier this month. The Trustee Ministry of the church reached out to the homeless population downtown to offer them a number of community services and resources. Special guest speakers were: Sascha Cherry, Victim Advocate, Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, and the Honorable Andrew Warren, State Attorney, Hillsborough County Florida. Among those who assisted with the event on the front row are: Jeffrey White, Gloria Sheppard and Mark Adams, who presided over the program. TAMPA FAMILY DONATES $100,000 TO FAMU
The family of Herbert D. Carrington, Jr., donated $100,000 to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) at the 2017 Homecoming on Saturday, October 14th.
This halftime presentation was among the top donors who provided gifts towards scholarships and Academic Excellence with Caring for FAMU. Other gifts presented included two School of Business and Industry (SBI) graduates from Miami and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The major giver was the National Alumni Association with the Foundation/Advancement Office, which gave a gift over the year in excess of $8.5 million.

COUPLE EXCHANGE WEDDING VOWS
Aeriell Robinson and Corey Carr were married on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Their wedding was at Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. OLD SKOOL REUNION GROUP CELEBRATES 10TH YEAR
For the past 9 years, former residents of Ponce De Leon and College Hill Homes Public Housing Complexes have come together to keep their friendship from years past alive. Each year, a group that has never attended the all day picnic, joins the regulars. The Old Skool group held their 10-year event on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Rowlett Park. The theme for this event was “We Are Family.” Those on the Planning Committee were: kneeling, Terrance Allen; standing, Gwelda Jackson, Artrell Thompson, Sharon Bostick, Brenia Harrison, Rhonda Barnum, Theresa Wimbuhs and Matt Hilliard. USF HOSTS 1ST SUPPLIER DIVERSITY DAY
Last Friday, the University of South Florida held its Supplier Diversity Day and more than 70 participants from the Tampa Bay Area converged on the Tampa campus for the all-day event. It was held in the ballroom of the Marshall Student Center. The program is desigened to create lasting relationships with women, minorities and veteran vendors. QUEEN R. MILLER SUITE DEDICATED DURING CEREMONY FOR LEE DAVIS CENTER
The ribbon cutting and re-dedication of the newly renovated Lee Davis Community Resource Center was held on Monday, October, 2, 2017. The $2.8 million renovation project began in March 2016 and was completed this summer. The Center houses several County department services and programs, including Aging Services, Health Care Services, Head Start, Library Services, and Social Services. Additionally, there will be two on-site community partners: Derrick Brooks Charities and the Sickle Cell Association of Hillsborough County. The Queen R. Miller Suite on the second floor was also dedicated during this ceremony. While chair of the Lee Davis Health Consumer Council in the 1970s, Ms. Queen Richardson Miller’s advocacy and work with local government and members of the business community led to the creation of the Lee Davis Community Resource Center. NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS ATTEND BEACON HOMES RIBBON CUTTING
On Thursday, September 28, 2017, the CDC of Tampa, Inc. held the Ribbon Cutting and Open House for the first four of 13 new homes in East Tampa. Beacon Homes, located on 34th Street at 28th Ave., celebrated the beginning of new life and new friends for these families. Among those who participated in the event were: Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Ernest Coney, Jr., President/CEO, CDC of Tampa, Inc.; Jerome D. Pastor’s 30th Anniversary Celebrated With Banquet
