USF HOSTS 1ST SUPPLIER DIVERSITY DAY
Last Friday, the University of South Florida held its Supplier Diversity Day and more than 70 participants from the Tampa Bay Area converged on the Tampa campus for the all-day event. It was held in the ballroom of the Marshall Student Center. The program is desigened to create lasting relationships with women, minorities and veteran vendors. QUEEN R. MILLER SUITE DEDICATED DURING CEREMONY FOR LEE DAVIS CENTER
The ribbon cutting and re-dedication of the newly renovated Lee Davis Community Resource Center was held on Monday, October, 2, 2017. The $2.8 million renovation project began in March 2016 and was completed this summer. The Center houses several County department services and programs, including Aging Services, Health Care Services, Head Start, Library Services, and Social Services. Additionally, there will be two on-site community partners: Derrick Brooks Charities and the Sickle Cell Association of Hillsborough County. The Queen R. Miller Suite on the second floor was also dedicated during this ceremony. While chair of the Lee Davis Health Consumer Council in the 1970s, Ms. Queen Richardson Miller’s advocacy and work with local government and members of the business community led to the creation of the Lee Davis Community Resource Center. The Suite will be a space for community members to gather and hold meetings. Family members who joined Mrs. Miller, center, for the dedication: Teka Wilson, D. J. NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS ATTEND BEACON HOMES RIBBON CUTTING
On Thursday, September 28, 2017, the CDC of Tampa, Inc. held the Ribbon Cutting and Open House for the first four of 13 new homes in East Tampa. Beacon Homes, located on 34th Street at 28th Ave., celebrated the beginning of new life and new friends for these families. Among those who participated in the event were: Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Ernest Coney, Jr., President/CEO, CDC of Tampa, Inc.; Jerome D. Ryans, President/CEO, Tampa Housing Authority, Inc.; and Debra Reyes, President/CEO, Neighborhood Lending Partners, Inc. Pastor’s 30th Anniversary Celebrated With Banquet
On September 9th, the Evening Star Tabernacle M. B. Church and friends honored their Pastor, Reverend Jerome Griffin and First Lady Mona Griffin with a Banquet. Line Dancers Celebrate 1st Anniversary
The Wallo Line Dancers celebrated their 1st anniversary with a community celebration at a popular restaurant on Harbour Island. MIDDLETON HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1960
Last month members of the Middleton High School held their Annual Class Reunion at the Embassy Suite, USF Tampa. The event took place August 10 through August 13, 2017. The theme for the reunion was “Remembering the past, Reflecting upon the Present and Reaching For the Future.” The group of former classmates who graduated 57 years ago, meet every 2 years for a much anticipated class reunion. They travel from various cities throughout the country to show their “Tiger Spirit” during a weekend of fun-filled activities. SENIOR CITIZENS TREATED TO LUNCHEON
For the past few years, Janice Nunn-Nelson has hosted a talent program for senior citizens who were once very active in the field of music in various church choirs or as soloists. They are invited to share their talents at a musical for seniors. The event is normally held in the Spring, followed by a luncheon. This year, the talent show was held, but the luncheon was postponed. Evangelist Nunn-Nelson hosted the luncheon last month at Big John’s Bar-B-Que Restaurant. TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI PREPARED FOR TAMPA CLASSIC
