FLORIDA BAR SWEARING-IN CEREMONY HELD

FOR FORMER STATE REPRESENTATIVE

Recently, family members, friends were on hand for the swearing-in ceremony of former State Representative Edwin Narain. The ceremony was conducted by the Honorable Judge Barbara Twine-Thomas at the Hillsborough County Courthouse, 401 N. Jefferson Street, on Friday, November 16, 2018. Senator Arthenia Joyner provided remarks. Among those in attendance at the ceremony from left to right are: Rep. 43^RD ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOR THE ASSOCIATION

FOR THE STUDY OF HIGHER EDUCATION HELD

       Recently, more than 150 seniors had the opportunity to network with representatives from some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation. This year, Tampa hosted the 43^rdAnnual Conference for the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE). The students took part in a series of workshops throughout the day at the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Downtown Tampa. Several members of Men of Vision, Inc., were among those who took part in the event: Demetrius Harris, Middleton High School; Darrin Harris, Middleton High School; Ms. Minerva Spanner-Morrow, Chief Diversity Officer, Hillsborough County School District; Dave Dehue, Morehouse University; Devin Johnson, Tampa Bay Technical High School; and Tyshawn Hatch,  Middleton High School. OUTSTANDING PARTNERSHIP AWARD PRESENTED TO CHILDREN’S ADVOCATE

             Mrs. Tonya Lewis, founder of Children With A Vision, Inc., was recognized recently when she was presented the ‘Outstanding Partnership Award’ from Tampa’s Chief of Police, Brian Dugan. KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY HOSTS SUCCESSFUL GOLF TOURNAMENT

            The men of the Tampa Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., are pleased with the success of their recent golf tournament. The event was held at Rogers Park Golf Course with more than 90 participants. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the scholarship fund. CDC OF TAMPA, INC. ‘CHAMPIONS LUNCHEON’ WAS ONE OF MOST SUCCESSFUL

            The Corporation to Develop Communities (CDC) of Tampa, Inc. held its major fundraiser last month. The ‘Champions Luncheon’ was held at TPepin Hospitality Centre. More than 400 corporate and community partners were in attendance, attributing to the success of the event. Some of those who participated on the program were: Senator (Atty.) Darryl Rouson, Ernest Coney, Jr., CEO of CDC of Tampa, Inc.; Congresswoman Kathy Castor, Steve Glaude, Keynote Speaker; Chloe Coney, Founder of CDC of Tampa, Inc.; Rich Black, of Onyx Magazine; Carla Williams, HART representative; and Dr. Samuel L. Wright, Sr., Consultant for the Luncheon.

MIDDLETON HIGH CLASS OF 1971 CELEBRATES 65^th BIRTHDAY

            The George Middleton High School graduating class of 1971 celebrated their 65^th birthdays recently. They had a ‘birthday party’ at the American Legion Hall on Kennedy Boulevard. 87^th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS

            The Reverend Willie G. Dixon celebrated his 87th Birthday with a party and “Get Out The Vote” (GOTV) Rally. Passionate about the need for African-Americans to get out the vote and to encourage 10 people to get out and vote, Rev. Dixon dubbed his birthday party a Voting Rally. The event was held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Charles Davis Conference Center. Family and friends joined him for the celebration. ELECTED OFFICIALS, MINISTERS MEET WITH MAYOR ANDREW GILLUM

            The Black Elected officials in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties including Black Ministers came together on Saturday, October 27th at Allen Temple AME Church to meet with Mayor Andrew Gillum. All participants came together to support and endorse his candidacy as the first African American Democratic nominee for Governor in the State of Florida. “We are hopeful that the voters in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties come out in mass numbers on or before November 6th to support Mayor Gillum,” stated Tampa City Council Chairman Frank Reddick.

SHARING FASHIONS WAS PART OF WOMEN’S BRUNCH

         Alysia Lance, founder of She’Xcellence, hosted a Women’s Empowerment Summit last month. The event was held at the Embassy Suites By Hilton in Brandon. In addition to Praise and Worship and Words of Empowerment, there was Brunch and a Fashion Show with several of the women as participants. These ladies show how the ‘She’Xcellence’ tee-shirt can be worn with so many different outfits. Those who modeled were: Jasmine Allen, narrator; Sheryl J.
