AFTER 7 YEARS, MIDDLETON TIGERS WIN HERITAGE CLASSIC TROPHY

 

      It has been 7 years since the Tigers of Middleton High School were able to look at the Heritage Classic Trophy in their own Trophy Case. That all changed a few weeks ago when the Tigers defeated the Yellow Jackets of Howard W. Blake High School in the 2020 Annual Heritage Football Classic. New Head Coach John Courtney, said, “It is a great accomplishment for the greater East Tampa Community.” The Tigers defeated the Yellow Jackets, 30-12.            The Renaissance at West River, the first new construction at the former North Boulevard Homes site, held its Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, September 24, 2020. The new building came 2 years after North Boulevard Homes was demolished in 2018. Those who participated in the ribbon cutting of the 160-unit elderly community were: Tampa Housing Authority Commissioners, Parker Homans and Ben Dachepalli; Jerome Ryans, CEO/President, Tampa Housing Authority; Jim Cloar, Chair, Tampa Housing Authority Board; Mayor Jane Castor; and Joe Robinson, President of the West Tampa CRA. LOST AND FOUND SISTERHOOD BUILDS RELATIONSHIPS WITH GIRLS 10-18 YEARS OLD

Lost and Found Sisterhood is for girls ages 10-18 years old, who have experienced sexual abuse, mental abuse, trauma, parenting separation, lack of guidance, and support. The organization was founded by Antranae Gilbert (CEO), a 23- year-old Tampa native. “My number 1 focus is to help build a personal relationship and connections with our teen girls and find time to balance out each and everyday to teach meaningful interactions within one another.” Currently, the pro- gram is working with 8 girls for 6 months. At the end of the 6 months, Lost and Found girls will speak on the positive impact of the program. Members of the Sisterhood are: Karinah Lovette, Kristen Watkins, Cherish Fleming, Alexis Dash, Antranae Gilbert, Dangela Howard, Anyia Gilbert, Ar’Rainna Lillie, and A’yahna Johnson. Black Business Bus Tour, Hands Of Hope Sickle Cell Attend March On Washington

 

             Members of two Tampa organizations traveled to Washington, D. C. for the “Get Your Knee Off Our Necks” Commitment March On Washington, on Friday, August 28, 2020. The March was spearheaded by Rev. Al Sharpton and Martin Luther King, III, and was held at the Lincoln Memorial on the 57thAnniversary of the historic 1963 March on Washington, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered the famous, “I Have A Dream” speech.

         Tampa’s Black Business Bus Tour is headed by Candy Lowe, and Hands Of Hope Sickle Cell Awareness is headed by Cecelia Mitchell.          Just prior to the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, Ross Anderson, founder of Men Of Vision, with the assistance of Tampa’s Mayor Jane Castor, presented computers to its members to prepare them for virtual learning.            James Harrell, Sr., Past President of International Longshoremen Association, Local 1402, was honored by the organization for 60 years of dedicated service. Andre Davis, Vice President of Local 1402, organized the surprise event for Mr. Harrell, which was held on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at the Longshoremen’s Hall.
