A crowd estimated at more than 3,000 welcomed President Barack Obama on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Hillsborough Community College, Dale Mabry Campus. The President greeted an enthusiastic crowd in Tampa who are moving ‘forward’ with him into the November election. His stop in Tampa followed a speech to a group in Orlando. Stu Robinson of Clear Channel’s 95.7 The Beat, hosted Stu’s 6th Annual Father Daughter Dance on Father’s Day at T. Pepin Hospitality Centre. This year’s theme for the sold-out event was ‘A Knight With His Princess.’ The guest speakers were James Evans, author and former NFL player, and Alyssa Bedard of ‘I Care About Me.’ NFL Player Michael Clayton led the fathers in the pledge. Last month, members of the Bay Area Medical Association (BAMA) held their First Annual Awards Banquet and Fundraiser at the Centre Club. The theme for the event was “Salute To The Class of 2012.” Three graduating high school seniors, one college graduate, and one medical school graduate were the recipients of $500 scholarship. The graduating high school seniors will attend the University of South Florida. Graduations in Hillsborough County began last Thursday and will continue throughout this week with the final 3 schools holding ceremonies on Friday. Family members and friends braved rainy weather Friday morning, June 1, 2012 to attend the graduation of C. Leon King High School. More than 350 students marched during the 9:30 a. m. service. The CDC of Tampa, Inc. Youth Leadership Movement Graduation Celebration was held on May 10, 2012 at the Cyrus Greene Community Center. The program assists young people achieve a path of self-sufficiency through obtaining a high school diploma, pursuing college education, and securing employment. The guest speaker for the program was Attorney Patricia Dawson. The Greater Tampa Chapter of Jack And Jill, Inc. celebrated the soon to be high school graduates and their moms during its Black Family Day celebration that took place Sunday, May 6 at the Glazer Children’s Museum. Nearly 200 Jack and Jill members, family and friends came out to honor the 11 graduating seniors, who are all heading off to colleges across the country this fall. Gail K. Reddick began her career with the Department of Corrections in May of 1977. Thirty-five years later she is going into retirement. On April 27, 2012, family, friends and colleagues and co-workers joined her at the Colonnade Restaurant for a Retirement Luncheon. She has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida, graduated from Florida State University as a Certified Public Manager and on May 5, 2012, graduated from the Criminal Justice Master’s Program at the University of South Florida.
