A film genre is currently taking over Hollywood. It’s known as faith based-films.
At its forefront is 33-year-old DeVon Franklin, who is vice president of production for Columbia Pictures (a division of Sony).
With more than a decade of experience in the film industry, Franklin has helped create films with religious undercurrents, such as The Pursuit of Happyness and most recently, Jumping the Broom — one of his greatest successes. “Jumping the Broom was a great experience,” he said. “It was bigger than a movie it was a movement.
In recent years, there have been fewer films in the African-American market and fewer writers, and this film turned that.”
According to Franklin, the faith-based film genre came from his wanting to create movies that would inspire audiences: “I have always wanted to create movies that really allow people to see themselves on screen. Movies that give people a sense of hope and purpose.”

Adele’s voice has given her the biggest success this year — and the most trouble. The singer will have throat surgery and has now canceled all tour dates and promotional appearances for the year.

Earlier this month, the 23-year-old canceled a U.S. concert run due to a hemorrhage in her vocal chord; she also canceled concerts in June due to laryngitis.
Adele’s “21” is the best-selling CD of the year in the United States; it’s sold over 4 million units.

There was a big confrontation at Nicki Minaj’s house.
A couple of weeks ago, Nicki’s maid took a photo of the singer out of the trash and then asked Nicki to sign it. Nicki got pissed and fired her.
The maid went back, and Nicki became enraged and ordered her to leave. The maid stood her ground, demanding not to be “treated like an animal” — at which point, Nicki allegedly said, “I’ll show you how to treat someone like an animal … get the f**k out of my house!”

Say hello to Morrocan and Monroe.
Mariah Carey and her hubby Nick Cannon debuted their 6-month-old twins nicknamed “Roc” and “Roe” on ABC’s 20/20 Friday night.
The twins were dressed in their Sunday best for the big reveal, as Barbara Walters interviewed the family in the nursery of their New York City apartment.
During the interview Mariah (who appeared svelte and up-beat), talked about the difficulties she encountered while being pregnant, and the couple also revealed having a miscarriage.
“I don’t think I understood the enormity and the magnitude of what it really does to your body,” Carey said. “Carrying two babies. Unless somebody’s been through it, it’s difficult to understand what I went through, because my pregnancy was very unique in terms of what happened to me.”
During her pregnancy the self-proclaimed diva suffered from gestational diabetes, was at a high risk for seizures and ultimately put on bed rest for an extended period of time.

NEW YORK — Janet Jackson is rescheduling part of her Australian tour so she can support her family during the trial of the doctor accused of involuntary manslaughter in her brother Michael’s death.
