Michael Jackson’s Mother Katherine Is Reportedly Missing, Presumed Safe

Michael Jackson’s Mother Katherine Is Reportedly Missing, Presumed Safe

LOS ANGELES — Authorities said Sunday they believe Katherine Jackson, the mother of Michael Jackson and the guardian of the pop legend’s three minor children, is safe in Arizona with family members after she was reported missing.

The disclosure came after another concerned family member officially reported her missing Saturday night amid a dispute over the estate of her superstar son.

A person familiar with Katherine Jackson’s whereabouts said she is with her daughter, Rebbie in Arizona and following a doctor’s orders to rest. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Sheriff’s officials later said they believe the 82-year-old is in Arizona with a relative, but that they were still trying to establish contact with her.

Katherine Jackson’s whereabouts caused concern for some family members in recent days, and her granddaughter Paris Jackson issued a frantic plea on Twitter early Sunday.

“I haven’t spoken with her in a week I want her home now,” she posted from her Twitter account. She also tweeted a number for people to contact in case they saw her grandmother.

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Ends Batman Franchise For Warner

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Ends Batman Franchise For Warner

LOS ANGELES – The release of Warner Bros.’ movie “The Dark Knight Rises” brings to an end one of Hollywood’s most enduring franchises, as the studio searches to find a new one capable of matching Batman’s box office success.

The Time Warner-owned studio has been Hollywood’s King of Franchises for years. Over the last decade it generated worldwide ticket sales of $12 billion from its “Lord of the Rings,” “Batman,” and “Harry Potter” films.

Eight of the 20 highest-grossing films of all time come from one of those franchises, according to website Box Office Mojo.

“The Dark Knight Rises” will be the last of the Batman series that began in 2005, director Christopher Nolan said.

“Harry Potter,” Warner Brother’s biggest franchise, ended last summer with the largest of eight films, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,” which generated $1.3 billion worldwide.

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Reportedly Earns $160M

LOS ANGELES — “The Dark Knight Rises” was on track to earn $160 million, which would be a record for 2-D films, over the weekend following a mass shooting at a Colorado screening of the Batman film.
Media outlets reported Sunday that the latest Batman sequel earned $160 million to $162 million.

That amount would best the $158.4 million debut of “The Dark Knight” in 2008 and give “Dark Knight Rises” the third-highest domestic weekend opening ever, after the 3-D films “The Avengers” with $207.4 million and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2” with $169.2 million.

Harlem Opera Singer 1st Black To Top U.K. Classical Charts

Harlem Opera Singer 1st Black To Top U.K. Classical Charts

Noah Stewart grew up in Harlem dreaming of the day he would take center stage at Carnegie Hall in his hometown of New York and The Royal Opera House in London.

And while most of his musically-inclined childhood friends emulated Beyonce and D’Angelo, Stewart looked up to the legendary Black-American soprano, Leontyne Price.

His album titled, “Noah,” topped the UK classical charts, the first for an Black artist!

And yes, he did make it back to Carnegie Hall, in 2009, to perform Mozart’s “Requiem” with conductor John Rutter.

Stewart, whose album includes operatic versions of “Nights in White Satin” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” in addition to more traditional operatic pieces, believes his UK success is at least partly due to his being “a nontraditional opera singer people can relate to,” and hopes that this leads to success in his home country as well.

He’s currently appearing as Radames in “Aida” at the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, NY, through Aug. 25.
