Before rapper Shawty Lo got the chance to display his baby-mama-drama, featuring his 11 children and their 10 different mothers, Oxygen has already shelved the show.
News and a super trailer of the Atlanta rapper’s new show “All My Babies’ Mamas” spawned anger and concern from the public and many civil rights groups, who felt Shawty Lo’s home life would only perpetuate ongoing stereotypes of African-American families.
The concerns were so serious, that nearly 40,000 people signed an online petition demanding that the show never see the light of day. Feeling the pressure, the network has now decided to cancel the one-hour special.
The network previously defended the intentions of the show saying, “Oxygen’s one-hour special in development is not meant to be a stereotypical representation of everyday life for any one demographic or cross section of society,” the network said in an earlier statement.” However, they have had a quick change of heart and recently released a statement saying, “As part of our development process, we have reviewed casting and decided not to move forward with the special.
In response to news of a canceled show, the southern rapper is now taking action to bring his show back on air. He has started his own petition, which currently has over 220 supporters.

Legendary social activist, comedian, and author Dick Gregory weighed in on the controversial Quentin Tarantino film “Django Unchained,” and he made some controversial comments about film director Spike Lee.
In an interview, Gregory says that the movie spoke to him in ways that no film had in all his years on earth. He then calls out Lee for criticizing a film that he’s never seen, saying that if anyone has created movies that are disrespectful to our ancestors, it’s Lee himself: I’ve seen ‘Django Unchained’ 12 times. Never in the history of Hollywood, have they ever made anything that freed the inside of me. The inside of me. I’m 80-years-old, I saw cowboy movies, wasn’t no Black folks in cowboy movies. I’m looking at a Western, plus a love story. To those of you all that see it, you’ll never see a love story about a Black man and a Black woman where it wasn’t some foul sex and foul language, huh. And Spike Lee can’t appreciate that. The little thug ain’t even seen the movie; he’s acting like he White.

The box office weekend may have belonged to the hunt for Osama Bin Laden; but the crazy jokes helped the Paranormal Activity spoof “A Haunted House” open big in second place making $18.8 million.
Meanwhile, poor Texas Chainsaw 3D got so massacred it nearly dropped out of the top ten a week after topping it. The Marlon Wayans horror spoof more than enough to upset proved to be a moneymaker for Open Road Entertainment, and nobody should be surprised when a sequel gets announced.
A Haunted House’s opening probably has the makers of Scary Movie 5 feeling a little more confident today knowing this brand of spoof movie is still bankable, and you just know somewhere out there Friedberg & Seltzer are rubbing their hands, doing their best Mr. Burns “excellent” impression.

Lifetime will kick off Black History Month in February with the film Betty & Coretta, starring Angela Bassett and Mary J. Blige.
The movie is executive produced by Blige and also stars Malik Yoba, and Lindsay Owen Pierre.
Focusing on the extraordinary women behind the two men who would change history, Betty & Coretta tells the similar true stories of Coretta Scott King (Bassett), wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (played by Yoba) and Dr. Betty Shabazz (Blige), wife of Malcolm X (who is played by Pierre).
“When their husbands were tragically assassinated, these two women not only inherited the mantle of the civil rights movement in America, each also found herself to be a single mother who had to find a way to raise and support her children with no husband or father, resulting in a relationship like no other that spanned more than three decades,” reps for Lifetime said in a press release.
Betty & Coretta will premiere on Lifetime Saturday, February 2 at 8/7c.

Don Cheadle won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy Series Sunday night at the 2013 ceremony.
The “House Of Lies” star beat out fellow nominees Jim Parsons, Alec Baldwin, Matt LeBlanc and Louis C.K. LeBlanc. Parsons and Baldwin are all former winners. Baldwin has three-career wins.
“This is unexpected,” Cheadle said while accepting his award, summing up the thoughts of many “Globes”-handicappers.
It was Cheadle’s second-career Golden Globe win. He won a statue in 1999 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture for “The Rat Pack” and was nominated in 2005 for Best Actor in a Motional Picture Drama for “Hotel Rwanda.”

Monday night, Meagan Good made her debut on NBC’s midseason drama Deception.
The show centers on Good’s character, Joanna Locasto, a San Francisco narcotics detective who returns to the wealthy family she grew up with in order to solve the murder of an heiress who was once her closest friend.
Good stars alongside her Jumping the Broom co-star, Laz Alonso, who plays federal agent Will Moreno.
Deception is currently one of the only two prime-time network dramas featuring an African American actress in a lead role.
During an interview, Good talked about the differences between her role on Deception and Kerry Washington’s role on ABC’s hit drama Scandal.
“Deception gets more scandalous, but it’s not like Scandal. I don’t think they’re similar,” Good said.
Deception airs on Mondays at 10 p. m. on NBC.
