Lou Myers, a stage, film and TV actor who memorably portrayed Mr. Gaines on the comedy “A Different World,” has died.
Myers had been battling pneumonia for months at the time of his death, according to a statement from Global Business Incubation, a nonprofit of which he was chairman. He passed away in Charleston, West Virginia, on February 19.
Although Myers is known for playing the lovably grumpy restaurant owner on Bill Cosby’s “A Different World” – a spinoff of “The Cosby Show” that followed a group of college students – the actor held a variety of credits to his name.
He appeared in TV shows such as “NYPD Blue,” “JAG” and “ER” in addition to movies like 2001’s “The Wedding Planner” and 1998’s “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.”
The actor is survived by his mother, who is 95, and his son.

Drake and Chris Brown are taking each other to court over their scuffle at a New York City nightclub last June.
The two artists and their entourages started throwing punches and bottles at the club W.i.P, allegedly after an argument broke out over Rihanna, with Brown recieving a gash on his chin. A few months after, a model named Romain Julien filed suit against Brown, Drake and the club, claiming he was caught in the crossfire and received cuts, cosmetic deformity and mental distress.
Now, both Brown and Drake have filed legal documents accusing the other of being responsible for the brawl. Both are essentially asking a judge to decide who would pay the damages should Julien win.
This is the latest in a handful of suits filed in the wake of the brawl. Along with Julien’s, Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. – which owns W.i.P. – sued Brown and Drake for $16 million, claiming they lost a $4 million licensing deal due to bad press from the fight. NBA star Tony Parker, a bystander that night, also filed suit against the club owners for $20 million, claiming he suffered an eye injury in the melee.
Investigators didn’t find enough evidence for either performer to face criminal charges for the incident.

A store employee from Milano Market spoke to the New York Daily News about the pat down Forest Whitaker endured after he was accused of stealing from the establishment.
“It was around lunchtime and the store was packed,” said a Milano employee who refused to give his name. “We were like 50 people deep. The person walked in and out really quickly so our person just made a mistake. The employee apologized immediately. It was an honest mistake. I’ve been here 14 years and nothing like this has ever happened.”
The employee’s comments still do not sit well with Forest, according to his representative.
This time, however, the NYPD is not behind the act; it was allegedly an employee of the Upper West Side’s Milano Market who carried out the embarrassing pat down. Whitaker said he was falsely accused of lifting an item off the store’s shelf and subsequently frisked by an employee. An eyewitness told the entertainment site that the Academy Award winner was frisked in plain view of everyone.
“This was an upsetting incident given the fact that Forest did nothing more than walk into the deli. What is most unfortunate about this situation is the inappropriate way store employees are treating patrons of their establishment.

ATLANTA — Stevie Wonder is not happy with Lil Wayne’s vulgar lyrics that reference Emmett Till, a black U.S. teen whose murder in 1955 for allegedly whistling at a white woman changed the national conversation on race and civil rights.
The R&B legend says the rapper’s disturbing verse should not have made it beyond the recording studio for the world to hear.
“You can’t equate that to Emmett Till,” Wonder said. “You just cannot do that. … I think you got to have someone around you that — even if they are the same age or older — is wiser to say, ‘Yo, that’s not happening. Don’t do that.’”
Wonder, who says he is a fan and friend of Lil Wayne, made the comments when asked what he thought of the controversial lyrics in an interview Thursday.
