Former Temptations Singer Richard Street Dies At 70

Former Motown vocalist Richard Street, a member of The Temptations for 25 years, has died. He was 70. Street’s wife, Cindy, says her husband died early Wednesday at a hospital in Las Vegas after a short illness. She told CNN that her husband experienced back pain and breathing troubles last Friday. Doctors ended up finding a clot in his lung, she said.

Richard Street sang as a young man with The Temptations members Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin, but didn’t join the famed Motown group until the early 1970s. He later made the move from his native Detroit to Los Angeles with other Motown acts and stayed with the group until the mid-1990s.

The 44-year-old “New Edition” singer was ordered to report to jail March 20. He also was placed on four years of informal probation and will be required to complete an 18-month alcohol treatment program.

Jermaine Jackson Officially Changes His Name To ‘Jacksun’

Jermaine Jackson Officially Changes His Name To ‘Jacksun’

Call him Mr. ‘Jacksun.’

The 58-year-old big brother to the late Michael Jackson has got a new, court-approved name. The singer filed the petition for the name change, which he said was for “artistic reasons,” back in November. “If Prince and P. Diddy can do it, why can’t and shouldn’t Jermaine?” Jacksun’s attorney, Bret D. Lewis, said at the time. A judge has now agreed. Jermaine is currently on tour with the other surviving members of the Jackson Five: Marlon, Jackie and Tito, so he was not at the court hearing.

This is not the singer’s first name change. He unofficially took the name Mohammad Abdul Aziz after converting to Islam back in 1989. And he’s no stranger to creative naming, having named his fourth child (after Jeremy, Jourdynn and Jaafar)Jermajesty.

Oscars 2013: Quentin Tarantino Wins Best Original Screenplay For ‘Django Unchained’

Oscars 2013: Quentin Tarantino Wins Best Original Screenplay For ‘Django Unchained’

Ang Lee wins Best Director award for Life of Pi.

Quentin Tarantino wins Best Original Screenplay for Django Unchained.

Anne Hathaway has gone from propping up leaden sidekick James Franco at the Academy Awards to hefting a golden statue of her own with a supporting-actress Oscar win as a doomed mother-turned-prostitute in the musical “Les Miserables.”

Austrian actor Christoph Waltz won his second supporting-actor Oscar for a Tarantino film, this time as a genteel bounty hunter in the slave-revenge saga “Django Unchained.”

In a choked voice, Waltz offered thanks to his character and “to his creator and the creator of his awe-inspiring world, Quentin Tarantino.”

A veteran performer in Germany and his native Austria, Waltz had been a virtual unknown in Hollywood when Tarantino cast him as a gleefully evil Nazi in 2009s “Inglourious Basterds,” which won him his first Oscar.

Waltz has since done a handful of other Hollywood movies, but it’s Tarantino who has given him his two choicest roles. Backstage, Waltz had a simple explanation for why the collaboration works.

Quentin writes poetry, and I like poetry,” Waltz said.

MC Hammer Arrested For Obstruction, Claims Racial Profiling

MC Hammer was arrested in Dublin, Calif. Thursday for obstruction, and claims to have been racially profiled. In a series of tweets, the legendary rapper blasted reports that he resisted police.

Hammer, born Stanley Burrell, is accused of driving a vehicle with expired tags, and was not the registered owner. The situation took place at the Hacienda Crossings shopping center. “After asking Hammer who the registered owner was he became very argumentative and refused to answer the officer’s questions,” police spokesman Herb Walters, told CNN in an email.

The 50-year-old was booked and released from the Santa Rita Jail, and used Twitter to tell his side of the story. “Sometimes in life you choose to ‘Fight’ and other times the ‘Fight’ chooses you,” he wrote. “Dignity is not a crime.”

Calling the officer a “chubby looking dude,” according to his recount, the cop immediately asked him if he was “on parole or probation.”
