NEW YORK  — Courtney B. Vance has won the first Tony Award of the night, taking the trophy for best featured actor in a play after host Neil Patrick Harris opened the show with a high-octane song boasting this night would be bigger than ever.

Vance, who was previously nominated for Tonys for “Fences” and “Six Degrees of Separation,” won for playing a newspaper editor opposite Tom Hanks in “Lucky Guy.”

Cicely Tyson Wins Tony For Best Actress In A Play For ‘The Trip To Bountiful’

NEW YORK  — Cicely Tyson, who returned to Broadway this season for the first time in 30 years, has taken home the Tony Award for best leading actress in a play.

In Horton Foote’s “The Trip to Bountiful,” Tyson plays a widow in 1953 whose only desire is to revisit her old home in Bountiful and recapture purpose she lost when she left for Houston.

Tyson, 88, beat out Laurie Metcalf, Amy Morton, Kristine Nielsen and Holland Taylor.

On Thursday, singer and reality show star, Tamar Braxton, reportedly gave birth to a baby boy.

Braxton, who is married to record executive and producer Vince Herbert, announced the happy news via Twitter.

Braxton getting pregnant was initially quite a surprise, since doctors had originally told her she had “fertility problems.” Braxton told People magazine, “Vince and I [were] told we were going to have fertility problems — it was a lot of information — so we had to get comfortable with the fact that it happened on its own.”

Of her pregnancy, the 36-year-old star of reality series “Tamar & Vince” said in May that she has had a “great” pregnancy, telling Us Weekly, “I have a lot of energy. I’m always upbeat and everyone has to tell me to sit down somewhere,” she laughed. “But I feel amazing!”

Kanye West’s circle of Hip-Hop friends is rather elite. June 8th was Yeezy’s birthday, and he spent at least part of it kicking it with Jay-Z and Nas—and Beyoncé, too.

God’s Son shared a flick from the day on his Instagram. “Yeezus x Hov x Godson …. The 3 Gods. Happy Birthday to my brotha Kanye!,” read the pic’s caption. Yeezy’s buddy Ibn Jasper also managed to catch some flicks of the party, which went down at Miss Tilly’s in NYC.

West’s girlfriend Kim Kardashian—who was absent because she can’t fly—also shared a message to her future baby daddy on Instagram, too. “Happy Birthday to my best friend, the of my life, my soul!!!! I love you beyond words!,” was the note attached to a collage of photos of her and the G.O.O.D. Music rapper.

NBC News has confirmed that, according to Michael Jackson’s attorney Michael Koskoff, the King of Pop’s 15-year-old daughter Paris Jackson was rushed to the hospital early this morning.

Her biological mother, Debbie Rowe, confirmed today that Paris tried to commit suicide and is currently receiving medical treatment. Paris has had “a lot going on [lately,]” Rowe said.

A 911 call came in at 1:27 A.M. reporting a possible overdose, and a source connected to the emergency response team said there was cutting involved.

“Braxton Family Values” star Trina Braxton has finally filed for divorce from her cheating, lying husband Grabriel Adrian-Solis.

Braxton filed divorce documents in a Georgia court claiming her marriage was “irretrievably broken” after a decade of infidelity. They are currently living in separate homes.

“Family Values” viewers are familiar with the “Trina and Gabe” saga.

After years of dealing with Adrian-Solis’ cheating, including a very public internet debacle with a transgendered woman, Braxton admitted to giving fellatio to a man in her band. At the time, she claimed that her husband’s infidelity had nothing to do with it.

Miguel’s “leg drop” victim might sue.

The young lady who was on the receiving end of Miguel’s leg drop at the Billboard Music Awards may have suffered brain damage from the incident.

Khyati Shah’s lawyer says that Shah is still suffering as a result of the incident. “Some of the difficulties she’s experiencing are cognitive in nature and lead to suspicion of a neurological head injury,” he said.

Immediately after the incident, Shah was given an ice pack that her attorney says was designed for an elbow, rather than being rushed to the hospital. Miguel appeared in a backstage interview with Shah and expressed his concern, but the general — and now obviously disproven — consensus was that she was fine. Miguel himself tweeted that he “got caught up in the moment” and said Shah was “okay.”

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly expecting a baby girl.

The couple recently discovered the sex of their baby-to-be — and they’re ecstatic.

“They’re over the moon!” a source close to Kardashian and West reports. “Kanye always wanted a girl.”

The invitation from Harvard University caught Oprah Winfrey at a low point. Her new TV network was struggling, branded a flop in the media, when Harvard President Drew Gilpin Faust called last year to ask Winfrey to address 2013 graduates.

The request came “in the very moment when I had stopped succeeding,” Winfrey recalled.

She headed for a long shower to think (“It was either that or a bag of Oreos,” she joked) and emerged resolved to change her story by the time her speech rolled around.

A year later, Winfrey said, her Oprah Winfrey Network has found its footing and her approach to facing setbacks had been validated. Stumbles are inevitable but not permanent, Winfrey told graduates Thursday.

“I want you to remember this: There is no such thing as failure,” she said. “Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction.”
