NEW YORK — Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network organized more than 100 rallies in cities across the U.S. calling for “Justice For Trayvon” Martin, and got some celebrity support.

Jay and Beyonce didn’t speak at the rally, but their appearance drew huge applause from the crowd who gathered in the 90 degree heat.

Scandal is pretty much on fire at this point. It’s a ratings smash, Shonda Rhimes brings in more money for ABC than any other writer/creator on the network, and Kerry Washington earned her first ever Emmy nomination early Thursday (July 18).
Washington, who plays crisis fixer and mistress, Olivia Pope, scores the praising nod for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She is also the first Black actress to be nominated in her category since Cicely Tyson, in 1995.
The newlywed is one of only five non-White actors nominated with 96 total nominees and if things go well at the awards show in September, she could be the first Black actress to ever win.
“I feel really excited and proud to live in a world where a show that embodies so much diversity on so many levels, because our show is so diverse with regard to race and ethnicity and gender and sexual orientation, that a show that really celebrates inclusivity is able to be such a success both in the U.S. and overseas,” Washington said. “That’s something that I’m really proud to be a part of, and I’m proud to be a citizen in a world where that’s possible.”

Actress Rae Dawn Chong (daughter of Tommy Chong…of Cheech and Chong) doesn’t like Oprah Winfrey very much. The two starred together in The Color Purple over 20 years ago (Chong was “Squeak”), and she doesn’t like what the talk show mogul has become.
Chong called Lady O a “field ni–a,” skilled in the art of “brown nosing.”
Oprah Winfrey’s former “Color Purple” co-star Rae Dawn Chong just UNLOADED on the talk show queen — claiming O is a self-centered fat “biotch” who would have been a “field n**ger” back in the slave days.
Rae Dawn — who’s part black — appeared on “Matty P’s Radio Happy Hour” and talked about how her personal relationship with O went from good to really REALLY bad back in the 80s.
RDC says Oprah was “lovely” to her back on the set of Purple in 1985 … but when Rae moved on to her next movie, “Commando,” that’s when she says O became “a total biotch.”

Yeezus is having a bad week. Kanye West allegedly attacked a photographer at LAX Friday. In photos, the paparazzo can be seen laid out on the ground while EMTs tend to his injuries.
Sources connected with the photog tell us, Kanye was on his way out of the airport when he went ballistic, attacking the paparazzo.
An eyewitness tells us, Kanye was leaving the terminal with a bodyguard and approximately five paparazzi surrounded him, snapping pictures. One photog was especially aggressive and probed Kanye with tons of questions.
Kanye told the man not to ask him questions, but he kept going — and Kanye attacked, attempting several punches, and the man fell down. Paramedics and police arrived on the scene.

PARIS — Halle Berry married her fiancé, French actor Olivier Martinez, in a weekend ceremony in a village church where princes are buried in France’s Burgundy region.
The owner of the Chateau de Vallery, where the couple stayed with their 60 guests, said on Sunday that the betrothal a day earlier ended with a dinner and an unusual fireworks display — of water, fire and snow — in the chateau gardens. A wedding cake followed.
Berry’s publicist, Meredith O’Sullivan Wasson, confirmed the marriage.

Lil Wayne saw critical backlash —and lost his Mountain Dew endorsement — because of his infamous line, “beat that pu—y up like Emmett Till,” on Future’s “Karate Chop.”
Though he issued a written apology to the Till family in May, the YMCMB rhymer felt it appropriate to send his regards again during a recent performance. It all went down at the Nashville, Tenn. stop of his America’s Most Wanted Music Festival.
As the band played the track’s sweeping melody, Weezy swapped out the original line with “I apologize to the family of Emmett Till. Two fingers in the air,” before continuing his verse.

Chris Brown can’t win for losing.
Monday (July 15), the bad boy R&B singer’s probation was revoked in the aftermath of his involvement in a hit-and-run accident.
Brown showed up at court to fight the L.A. County D.A.’s motion to revoke his probation in the wake of hit-and-run charges stemming from a car accident in May, but the judge granted the motion anyway, paving the way for a probation violation hearing in August.
If the judge determines Chris violated his probation, the singer could be sentenced to 4 years in prison.

Beyonce called in a concert for a moment of silence for Trayvon Martin, rapper, Young Jeezy released a song in Martin’s memory and Russell Simmons called for peace after George Zimmerman was acquitted by a Florida jury in the death of the teenager.
There was a wide range of reactions by celebrities after jurors cleared Zimmerman late Saturday of all charges in the 2012 shooting death of the unarmed 17-year-old Martin. Beyonce took a moment to honor Martin during her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour concert at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
Her concert started about 30 minutes after the Zimmerman verdict began to circulate. “I’d like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon,” the pop star said as the stage grew dark with just a few key lights shining.
Beyonce then sang the chorus of “I Will Always Love You,” a song, fittingly given the location, written by country music star Dolly Parton and brought to a global audience by the late Whitney Houston, before transitioning into her hit “Halo.”
