Brandon Marshall And Wife Have History

Brandon Marshall, the star wide receiver of the Miami Dolphins was recently stabbed by his wife. Many are not really surprised by the event. I spoke with one of Marshall’s classmates at the University of Central Florida who said Marshall and his wife have a long history of domestic violence.

They were always at each other’s throats and they constantly argued and fought. Many were surprised when they got married.

Ray’s Longoria Set To Return

The Tampa Bay Rays will be a much better baseball team come Tuesday night. That is the time when slugging All-Star third baseman, Evan Longoria is expected to come off of the injury list and return to the Ray’s lineup.

Longoria has missed most of this season. Longoria is currently undergoing rehab. He will rejoin the Rays on Tuesday. The Rays can surely use Longoria.

Gators Release Jenkins

The Florida Gators released cornerback Janoris Jenkins because he just can’t stop smoking and going to jail. The junior who was projected as a first-round draft choice was recently arrested for the third time. The reason! Marijuana.

Jenkins and new Gator head football coach, Will Muschamp mutually decided that the team and Jenkins should part ways. Janoris can enter this year’s draft, but his value will fall.

(An Analysis)

It doesn’t take much these days to get the media wires burning. What really makes things bad is when these media sources give credence to comments made by one NFL athlete against another.

In this case, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer defensive tackle, Chris Hovan.

Hovan got on a radio show last week, and said that the Bucs have given Aqib Talib too many chances, and blames head coach Raheem Morris.

First of all, who cares what Hovan has to say? He wasn’1t even good enough to keep a spot on the Buccaneer roster, and now he thinks he has the expertise to tell the Buccaneer organization what they should do about disciplining a player. And, he couldn’t resist taking a poke at Coach Morris.

Hovan said in his opinion, Raheem Morris has shown favoritism towards Talib. I guess in hindsight, Raheem should have shown favoritism to Hovan and kept him on the team.

With all the talk on sports radio, sports television, the tabloids, and even by some washed up NFL athletes, they all seem to forget two very important words: DUE PROCESS.

Last time I checked, the authorities in Texas haven’t convicted Talib of anything, and until the case has gone through our judicial system, Talib is innocent until proven guilty. It should also be pointed out that the NFL has taken no action, and with no Collective Bargaining Agreement, they can’t.

So, why the rush to judgment on a young man who has had some problems in the past? Should he always be judged by past mistakes, or like most people, doesn’t he deserve the benefit of the doubt? Even more critical, doesn’t he deserve to be tried and convicted before he is punished?

I know I’ll be hearing about Hovan’s remarks all week, because some media outlets just love this kind of stuff.

On a personal level, you can take Hovan’s comments, and fertilize an entire valley with it, because that’s all it’s worth.

Hovan is a disgruntled football player who was cut by the Bucs because he wasn’t good enough, and now he wants to strike back at Talib and Coach Morris. This shows what a complete loser Hovan really is.

This also shows to what extent the media will go to paint an African American athlete as being trouble and not worth having around.

The Bucs need to keep Talib and Tanard Jackson. WE ARE FAMILY!

St. Petersburg, FL   ——- The St. Petersburg Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will host its inaugural Kentucky Derby: Run for the Roses Gala on Saturday, May 7th at the beautiful Farley Estate (5030 Sunrise Dr. South) in St. Petersburg.

The fundraiser will bring the essence of the Kentucky Derby right here to Tampa Bay.  The event will feature many aspects of a true Louisville, Kentucky derby event including a red carpet, cigar lounge (sponsored by Thompson Cigars), mint julep bar, derby cuisine, Millionaire’s Row, silent auction, live music and betting station.

NEW ORLEANS — Authorities say Los Angeles Lakers forward Derrick Caracter was arrested in New Orleans, accused of public drunkenness and shoving a pregnant cashier at a pancake restaurant.

Police said the 22-year-old player was arrested early Sunday and booked into jail on charges of battery, public drunkenness and resisting arrest. They say Caracter allegedly grabbed and shoved the cashier at an International House of Pancakes after he was refused service and became belligerent. The woman wasn’t injured.

Authorities say Caracter was freed later Sunday morning on $1,000 bond.

Caracter didn’t play in Sunday night’s playoff game against the Hornets.

WASHINGTON — Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor sexual abuse for allegedly fondling the breast of his server in a hotel restaurant in Washington.

A grand jury returned an indictment formally charging Haynesworth over the alleged incident at a downtown Washington hotel in the early hours of Feb. 13. If convicted, the 29-year-old two-time All-Pro faces up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

According to the U. S. attorney’s office, the government’s evidence shows Haynesworth slid a credit card down the front of the server’s dress and fondled her breast.

Haynesworth also faces charges in Virginia for allegedly punching a man during a road-rage assault. His trial is scheduled for May.

At one point last summer, he was also involved in lawsuits from a bank, an exotic dancer, a man injured in an automobile accident and complaints from his ex-wife that he wasn’t paying for her health insurance or their children’s bills.

Haynesworth has also dealt with his share of on-the-field problems over the past year.

Several members of the media spent a few hours at Big Bear, California where Shane Mosley has his training camp. Transpo was sponsored by Top Rank. Mosley is preparing for his fight May 7 against WBO welterweight  champion Manny Pacquiao.

Mosley told the reporters that his energy is great and that it is at high level. He claimed that he has high power in both hands ready to attack Pacquiao when the latter starts strong in the first few rounds.

Mosley acknowledged though that the Pacquiao is not an easy opponent considering that he attacks from different angles and he still has the power even at the remaining rounds.

GREENBURGH, NY — Carmelo Anthony sees the Knicks as a 50-win team that competes for the Eastern Conference title.

Amare Stoudemire believes there is similar potential, viewing New York as a rising team after so many years of dormancy.

There’s still building to be done. Though nobody knows for sure who will be doing it, the two All-Stars know of a couple of guys willing – maybe expecting – to help: themselves.

A day after New York’s best season in a decade ended with a first-round sweep, Anthony and Stoudemire both said they’ll seek input in putting together the pieces around them that are missing.

“I’m pretty sure this offseason there will be a lot of talk, a lot of communication, I hope it is, with me and the front office, with Amare and the front office,” Anthony said Monday. “As being the faces of this organization, we want to do everything we have to do, look at some pieces out there that we need to add.”

Anthony, who has been here only since his acquisition from Denver in a blockbuster trade in February, was asked if that meant he should have a role in personnel matters.

In 2007, a group of young men and parents recognized the need to teach youngsters about survival. However, they needed a venue to gain their attention.

The decided that the best manner in which to reach the youngsters was through sports and formed the Sulphur Springs Cowboys Football and Cheerleading Association.

However, Roger Hayes, Jr., President and Head Coach of the Seniors team said, “This is not just about football and cheerleading, but about life skills. We use football as a means of reaching the children, but we teach them about hard work, dedication and setting goals.”

The Sulphur Springs Cowboys Football and Cheerleading Club have 5 divisions. The youngsters range in age from 4 years to 14 years of age.

Hayes said they are a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization and are currently trying to raise funds for the upcoming season. Practice begins on July 11th and the season begins on August 20th.

As the club prepares to enter its 5th season, he stated, “Our primary objective is to promote the importance of education and self-pride through football and cheerleading. But Sulphur Springs is an underprivileged and underserved community.”

“We know the struggles of our parents and we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to participate. In an effort to continue to provide the children with superior equipment and uniforms without increasing registration fees, we are turning to the community, companies, and organizations for assistance and support.”

Hayes further stated that all donations go directly to the league. He further stated that they are anticipating about 200 participants.

Tampa Bay needs a pass rusher.

Statistics suggest it, NFL draft analysts believe it, and even Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik concedes it. Yes, a defensive end with the ability to put heat on quarterbacks is the most pressing need for a team that won 10 games and narrowly missed making the playoffs last season.

Tampa Bay ranked 30th among 32 teams in sacks with 26 a year ago, despite using their first two picks in the 2010 draft on a pair of defensive tackles who arrived with strong pass rushing resumes from college.

Gerald McCoy, the third overall pick behind Sam Bradford and Ndamukong Suh, got off to a slow start in an injury-shortened rookie season and finished with three sacks in 13 games.
