NEW YORK – Stanford’s Andrew Luck is returning to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist, just not as the favorite.

That distinction belongs to Baylor’s Robert Griffin III.

The two star quarterbacks will join fellow finalists Trent Richardson, Tyrann Mathieu and Montee Ball at the Heisman presentation Saturday night in Manhattan.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Erik Walden was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor disorderly conduct-domestic abuse following a fight with his girlfriend.

Walden did not appear for a Brown County Circuit Court hearing and defense attorney Steve Richards entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Walden remains free on bond and is due back in court Dec. 27.

If convicted, Walden would face up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. County District Attorney John Zakowski acknowledged the possibility of a plea bargain agreement that would spare Walden from serving additional jail time.

Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman injured his right shoulder in the closing seconds of a loss at Tennessee and is day-to-day for Sunday’s game against Carolina.

Coach Raheem Morris said Freeman was hurt on a quarterback sneak that was stopped for no gain, sealing a 23-17 loss to the Titans. The third-year pro did not throw in practice Wednesday, but participated in some drills.

News of Freeman’s latest injury came on the heels of the quarterback acknowledging he aggravated a sprained thumb when a pistol he was firing at a shooting range recoiled Oct. 31. He said he used poor judgment in firing a gun during the team’s bye week, but insisted Wednesday that a cut requiring five stitches had not affected his performance or grip on the football.

Floyd Mayweather has hinted that his long-awaited showdown with Manny Pacquiao could take place in May next year.

In a video message linked from his official Twitter page Mayweather, a five-division world champion and the current WBO welterweight champion, called on the Filipino to make the fight happen.

Pacquiao, who has won titles at eight divisions, recently registered a controversial defeat of Juan Manuel Marquez, stating afterward he was keen to take on Mayweather.

NEW YORK  — Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor is being sued by the teenage girl he admitted having sex with in the case that led to him pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges earlier this year.

Cristina Fierro filed suit in federal court in New York on Monday. She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages to be determined at trial.

Taylor was sentenced to six years’ probation under a deal to plead guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing an underage prostitute. The former New York Giants star linebacker was initially charged with third-degree rape, among other counts.

STANFORD, CA – Chester McGlockton, a four-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman who emerged as a talented assistant coach and mentor at Stanford, died Wednesday. He was 42.

McGlockton also spent time helping the San Francisco 49ers and former Cardinal coach Jim Harbaugh – his former racquetball partner – during training camp this summer as part of the Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship.

Harbaugh expressed sadness and shock upon hearing of McGlockton’s death. Stanford said the school’s defensive assistant died overnight.

A native of Whiteville, N.C., McGlockton starred at Clemson before being selected 16th overall by the Los Angeles Raiders in 1992. He played 12 seasons in the NFL.  He made all four of his Pro Bowl appearances while with the Raiders from 1994-1997.

McGlockton’s best season came in 1994, when he had a career-high 9 1/2 sacks with three forced fumbles and 48 tackles.

NEW YORK — Ndamu-kong Suh will get his appeals hearing right away.

On Thursday afternoon, Suh will present his appeal of his two-game suspension for stomping Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith to Art Shell. The league handed out the suspension Tuesday, but Suh immediately appealed.

Shell is a joint appointee of the NFL and the players’ association for such cases.

A person familiar with the process said on Wednesday about the hearing, which will be held by conference call.

Suh stomped on Dietrich-Smith during Detroit’s Thanksgiving Day loss to the Packers and was ejected. Should he lose the appeal, he will miss Sunday’s game at New Orleans and the Lions’ Dec. 11 home game against Minnesota.

The NBA has informed teams that all games through Dec. 15 have been canceled.

The most recent collective bargaining proposal sent to the players detailed a 72-game 2011-12 NBA season that would begin on Dec. 15. The NBPA made the decision to reject that offer from the owners, and have begun to make efforts to disband their union. In doing so, they plan to try to take talks of a new collective bargaining agreement out of the negotiating room and into the courts.

Until now, NBA commissioner David Stern had only officially only canceled NBA games through Dec. 1. During an interview Stern made it clear that with the NBA players’ recent actions, the possibility of any season in 2011-12 is becoming increasingly unlikely.

NEW YORK — Former NBA guard Cuttino Mobley filed a lawsuit against Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, accusing the New York Knicks of pressuring him to retire as a way to save approximately $19 million.

Mobley retired because of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart disease, shortly after the Knicks acquired him from the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 21, 2008. He knew he had an irregularity with the heart, but an MRI exam the team ordered after his physical revealed the more serious condition.

The lawsuit filed in the Southern District of New York contends the Knicks knew of Mobley’s condition, but pushed to make the trade anyway, then sent him to specialists they knew would oppose him playing, so insurance could pay his contract and it wouldn’t count against the luxury tax.
