Justin Combs officially signed his national letter of intent with his proud multimillionaire father by his side on National Signing Day yesterday.

The 5 foot 9, 175-pound, cornerback hails from Iona Prep in New Rochelle, New York.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner has said it.

Now, general manager Mark Dominik has come out and said it.

The Bucs will be a player in free agency again. After a couple of seasons of sitting on the checkbook during free agency and relying on the draft – a strategy that ultimately handcuffed ex-coach Raheem Morris and his staff – the franchise is ready to venture into free agency again, presumably starting March 13.

Tony Dorsett, a retired Hall of Fame running back for the Dallas Cowboys, is one of at least 300 former players suing the National Football League, claiming the NFL pressured them to play with concussions and other injuries and then failed to help them pay for health care in retirement to deal with those injuries.

“Did they know it was a concussion?” he asks rhetorically. “They thought I was half-dead.”

“That ain’t the first time I was knocked out or been dazed over the course of my career, and now I’m suffering for it,” the 57-year-old former tailback says. “And the NFL is trying to deny it. They use you up!”

There was no way Angelo Dundee was going to miss Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday party.

The genial trainer got to see his old friend, and reminisce about good times. It was almost as if they were together in their prime again, and what a time that was.

Dundee died in his apartment in Tampa, Wednesday night at the age of 90, and with him a part of boxing died, too.

He was surrounded by his family, said his son, Jimmy, who said the visit with Ali in Louisville, Ky., meant everything to his Dad.

“It was the way he wanted to go,” the son said. “He did everything he wanted to do.”

Jimmy Dundee said his father was hospitalized for a blood clot last week and was briefly in a rehabilitation facility before returning to his apartment.

LAS VEGAS –  Floyd Mayweather Jr. got almost everything he wanted Wednesday, receiving a boxing license and naming an opponent and a date for his next fight.

The unbeaten champion got everything except a showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather will fight Miguel Cotto on May 5 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden after Nevada’s athletic commissioners granted him a conditional license for one fight before he goes to jail in June.

Mayweather (42-0, 26 KOs) chose Cotto (36-2, 29 KOs), the respected Puerto Rican champion, as his next opponent only after failing to land a date with Pacquiao, the superstar Filipino congressman. The two sides have discussed what’s likely to be the most lucrative fight in boxing history for nearly three years without reaching a deal.

“I presented Pacquiao with the fight,” Mayweather said after meeting with the Nevada commission. “Pacquiao is blowing a lot of smoke. … He doesn’t really want to fight. I gave him a chance to step up to the plate. We’re talking about a $10 million fighter that I tried to give $40 million to. We didn’t even talk about the back end.”

“I’m just happy to be fighting May 5,” Mayweather said as he emerged from the hearing room. “They granted me one fight. I need to conduct myself like a gentleman and do everything that the court ordered and then come back in front of them and show them that I deserve to have a license for a whole year.”

Mayweather, a seven-time world champion in five weight classes, will turn 35 this month. He’ll step up in weight against Cotto for the WBA super welterweight belt.

Terrell Owens appeared on The Wendy Williams Show, where he opened up about his financial problems and ending his longtime friendship with Kita and Monique from VH1’s The T.O. Show.

“I’m not a frivolous guy,” Owens said, “I do take responsibility because I should have been on top of my finances.” Despite earning almost $80 million over the course of his fifteen season-long career, Owens reveals he’s “broke” in this month’s GQ cover story.

Terrell Owens has fallen on hard times. Unable to find a job in the NFL during the 2011 season, Owens revealed in GQ’s February cover-story that he’s broke and alone after making nearly $80 million over the course of his football career.

Greg Schiano made it clear Friday he was not in a hurry to become a NFL coach. He is now head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers simply because he felt the opportunity finally was right.

“I’ve had some other opportunities before, but this one just felt right,” Schiano said during an introductory news conference at One Buc Place that drew several Bucs players, past and present.

Former Bucs great Mike Alstott sat in the front row to hear the new coach’s introduction while quarterback Josh Freeman, running back LeGarrette Blount and safety Cody Grimm took seats in the back row of the team’s auditorium.

What everyone heard was a coach who vowed to instill discipline and structure into a team coming off a 4-12 season and with a 62-82 record since it won the Super Bowl in 2003.

“Our team will be built around a humble, unselfish attitude of sacrifice,” said Schiano, who left Rutgers after 11 seasons to join the Bucs. “It’s hard to find that in today’s world, but that’s who we’ll be.”

Bernard Hopkins, the oldest champion in boxing history, is set to make a historic title defense at age 47 in a rematch against fellow American Chad Dawson on April 28 at Atlantic City.

Hopkins will defend his World Boxing Council light-heavyweight crown against Dawson in a rematch of a fight last October in Los Angeles that ended in round two when Dawson lifted Hopkins by the leg and slammed him into the canvas.

Hopkins suffered a dislocated joint connecting his left shoulder and collarbone and has yet to resume full training.
