The Super Bowl XXV ring of pro football Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor was sold in an online auction Sunday for $230,401.

Online auctioneer SCP Auctions did not reveal the name and location of the winning bidder. The auction was won with the 30th bid.

The ring was given by Taylor to his son, Lawrence Taylor Jr.  Taylor’s agent, Mark Lepselter, said the linebacker did not know his son had put the ring up for auction. However, the auction listing said the elder Taylor was fine with the decision.

Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s lineman, Brian Price’s personal life has been even more difficult. He had previously lost two brothers to shootings, and last week, his 30-year-old sister Bridget was killed in an auto accident in Inglewood, Calif. Price was so distressed, he eventually had to be hospitalized for dehydration.

“He physically broke down,” his agent, Chuck Price (no relation), told the Los Angeles Times. “He had a high fever, was dehydrated, and couldn’t hold anything down. That stress just plays a wicked role.”

Price, who took his sister’s 7- and 9-year-old children to a Dodgers game the night before their mother was killed, now plans to adopt the children.

Jacob Bell of the Cincinatti Bengals has decided to call it quits after 8 years in the National Football League. The 31-year-old offensive lineman has made millions off the game that he loves, but with more than 3,000 professional football players, past and present, suing the NFL for “deliberately concealed information about the long-term effects of repeated hits to the head,” Bell does not want to become another statistic.

After 8 years in the league, Bell retired in his prime. These days, his focus is on staying fit, keeping healthy, and recovering from past injuries. “The first time you sprain your ankle, you’re thrown off,” Bell says.

“We’re now seeing that there is clear-cut proof that the trauma incurred during football leads to problems later in life,” Bell says.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning on suspicion of DUI. TMZ first reported the incident, which was later confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by Jones’ manager, Malki Kawa.

The initial report from TMZ, citing undisclosed law enforcement sources, alleged that “Jones was involved in an accident at around 5 a.m. in Binghamton, N.Y.” Jones reportedly totaled his car when he crashed into a pole, and was arrested on the scene for suspicion of DUI.

He was taken into custody, but later released when his mother paid his bail.

On June 9th, Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs), 33, will fight Timothy Bradley (28-0, 12 KOs), 28, for Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.

While almost every fight involving Pacquiao is seen as merely a prelude to an inevitable showdown against Floyd Mayweather, it would be foolish to overlook someone of Timothy Bradley’s class and skill.

Considering what Bradley brings to the table, as well as Pacquiao’s most recent performance against Juan Manuel Marquez, it is plausible that we could be in for a thrilling and hotly contested fight.

In analyzing Bradley’s best attributes, it becomes clear that he possesses certain intangibles that will give him the chance to have success against Pacquiao.

Bradley does have the skill and speed to hang with Pacquiao, and he will undoubtedly make this a tougher and closer fight than expected.

CHICAGO — The doctor who operated on Derrick Rose’s knee insists the Chicago Bulls’ star can dominate again. It will take time, though.

Rose faces a recovery of eight months to a year.

The assessment by team physician Dr. Brian Cole on Tuesday means the point guard could return around mid-January to early February, or miss next season. The doctor added there is a chance Rose could be back sooner, but “we’re not going to rush it.”

The Bulls had already said Rose has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Cole said there were also two tears in his meniscus cartilage.

He said Rose is “doing great,” that the surgery went “extremely well” and he can still be an explosive player.

Bears fans can breathe a sigh of relief. According to an ESPN report, Brandon Marshall will be cleared of any wrongdoing from a nightclub incident earlier this year.

Police have struggled to find evidence that Marshall was involved in a fight where a woman was struck.

If authorities clear Marshall as expected, he’ll also likely avoid the ire of the NFL.

While Commissioner Roger Goodell has a reputation for being tough with players who step out of line, he’ll have little to say if Marshall is found not to be involved with the incident in March.

An altercation occurred at a New York nightclub visited by Marshall and his wife, and a woman accused him of “coldcocking her.”

Marshall disputed her claims and said it was his wife who left the club bleeding. He said last week that he was confident he would be cleared of any wrongdoing.

ANAHEIM, CA — Torii Hunter was placed on the Los Angeles Angels’ restricted list Monday after his teenage son was arrested in Texas.

The town of Prosper, Texas, issued a news release announcing 17-year-old Darius McClinton-Hunter of neighboring McKinney, Texas, was arrested Monday in a sexual assault case.

The Prosper police made five arrests after a month long investigation of sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony.

Darius Hunter is one of Torii Hunter’s three sons who played on the Prosper High football team last season.

All three sons, including Torii Jr. and Monshadrik “Money” Hunter, are considered Division I football prospects, with Torii Jr. considering Stanford and Darius Hunter interested in playing at Oregon, according to his father.

Darius Hunter, a receiver last season, reportedly attracted interest and scholarship offers from Texas Tech, SMU and West Virginia, among others.
