LeBron James had 29 points and 14 rebounds and Dwyane Wade finished with 25 points and seven assists as the Miami Heat beat Oklahoma City 91-85 to take a 2-1 series lead in the NBA finals.

Wade sank two free throws with 13 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring for the Heat, who are in the finals for the second year in a row and trying to win their first championship since 2006.

“We had enough stops, enough timely scores and we were still able to get some free throws down the stretch to find a way to grind out a win,” Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said.

CLEVELAND  – A Nevada jury has ruled that Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Adam “Pacman” Jones must pay $11.6 million to three plaintiffs for his role in a 2007 shooting incident at a Las Vegas strip club.

The Clark County jury on Friday awarded Thomas Urbanski $9.6 million in compensatory damages for a gunshot injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down, according to online court records. Urbanski was the manager of the Minxx club.

Aaron Cudwort, a bouncer at the club, was awarded $1 million in compensatory damages and $600,000 in punitive damages for injury in the shooting.

Urbanski’s wife, Kathleen, was awarded $750,000 for loss of consortium.

The awards stem from an altercation in February 2007 when Jones, who was with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans at the time, was in Las Vegas during the National Basketball Association’s All-Star weekend.

SAN FRANCISCO — What began as a promising quest for a 15th major championship dissolved into disappointment Sunday for Tiger Woods in the 112th U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.

After sharing the 36-hole lead, Woods went backwards the last two rounds. He followed up Saturday’s 5-over-par 75 with a 73 Sunday and tied for 21st at 7-over 287, six strokes behind winner Webb Simpson.

“Yesterday, I was just a touch off,” Woods said. “That’s fine. I’m still in the ballgame. Today, I just got off to a horrific start and just never got it going early, and unfortunately I put myself out of it.”

SAN DIEGO  — LaDainian Tomlinson’s brilliant NFL career will officially end when he ceremoniously rejoins the San Diego Chargers for a day.

The Chargers said Sunday that Tomlinson, who was the NFL MVP in 2006 with San Diego and is the fifth-leading rusher in league history, will re-sign with the team on Monday and then announce his retirement.

Tomlinson was drafted in the first round by San Diego in 2001 and became one of the biggest stars in team history, helping revive the Chargers after the devastating Ryan Leaf years and turning them into a force in the AFC West. He spent the first nine years of his career in San Diego. He played the last two seasons with the New York Jets.

Tomlinson won the MVP in ’06, when he set NFL single-season records with 31 touchdowns, including 28 rushing, and 186 points. He ran for a career-high 1,815 yards that year, giving him the first of two straight league rushing titles.

Tomlinson finishes his career with 13,684 yards and 145 touchdowns.

On Monday, historically black college Alcorn State, hired Jay Hopson as their new head football coach. The news of the hiring is significant, because

Hopson’s hiring makes  Alcorn State the first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) school to name a non-black head football coach, according to their site.

“The future for Alcorn football is bright and I am excited that Coach Hopson will lead us forward,” said Alcorn State President M. Christopher Brown II. “Today’s historical appointment will require us to walk hand in hand to disrupt naysayers wedded to a racist past.”

Hopson says he is willing to do what it takes to bring Alcorn State back to prominence after recent unsuccessful losing years. He replaces the previous coach, Melvin Spears, who was fired from the school in February after compiling a 2-8 record in his only season at the helm.

LAS VEGAS — Floyd Mayweather Jr. surrendered in a courtroom Friday to begin a three-month jail sentence for attacking his ex-girlfriend in September 2010 while two of their children watched.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa credited the undefeated five-division champion with attending weekly domestic violence counseling sessions — including one the day of the May 5 fight she allowed him to make — and with beginning to meet community service requirements she imposed in December. The judge then watched as Mayweather was handcuffed and taken away.

Mayweather didn’t say a word.

“He’ll be all right,” Mayweather’s friend, rapper 50 Cent, told reporters after arriving with Mayweather and speaking afterward with ring adviser Leonard Ellerbe outside the courthouse in downtown Las Vegas.

“It’s an uncomfortable situation for everyone,” he said.

Tiger Woods hit 13 fairways and 14 greens and carded seven birdies in the final round.

Hitting clutch shots when it mattered and stroking in key putts when required, Woods fired a final-round, 5-under-par 67 Sunday to win the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, for a record fifth time.

It was a sweet victory for the 36-year-old Woods, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour this year. He now has 73 career titles on the PGA Tour, catching Memorial host Jack Nicklaus, as the duo rank second all-time. Sam Snead holds the all-time record with 82.

“I really didn’t miss a shot today,” said Woods, who has now won multiple PGA Tour titles in the same season 13 times.

Woods did it in comeback fashion. Starting the final round four strokes behind Rory Sabbatini, he birdied three of the last four holes, including a delicate, 50-foot downhill flop shot that found the cup from deep rough behind the par-3 16th green. Afterward, on television, Nicklaus called it the best shot he had ever seen.

“The most unbelievable, gutsy shot I’ve ever seen,” he said. “Look at the position he’s in. If he’s short, the tournament is over. If he’s long, the tournament is over. He hits in the hole.”

Woods’ 67, which equaled the lowest round of the day, left him at 9-under 279, two strokes better than Sabbatini and Andres Romero. His previous Memorial wins came in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2009.

He also won $1,116,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points.

STILLWATER, Okla. — Authorities in Oklahoma say Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon has been arrested on an aggravated DUI charge after he allegedly had three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Stillwater Police spokesman Capt. Randy Dickerson says the 22-year-old former Oklahoma State star was arrested early Sunday morning.

Dickerson says a breathalyzer test showed Blackmon had three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

The Jaguars drafted Blackmon with the fifth pick in this year’s NFL draft in the hopes that he could upgrade the league’s worst offense.

Jaguars spokesman Dan Edwards says the team is aware of the report and is gathering information.

Blackmon was released from jail Sunday afternoon on $1,000 bond.

MANSFIELD, La.  — Former NBA standout Orlando Woolridge has died at his parents’ home in Mansfield, La. He was 52.

DeSoto Parish Chief Deputy Coroner Billy Locke said Woolridge died Thursday night. He had been under hospice care for a chronic heart condition.

Woolridge was a first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bulls in 1981 and played in the NBA for 13 years. He was a star at Mansfield High School before going on to play for Notre Dame.

He played for the Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Detroit, and also coached the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA.
