MIAMI — Quarterback David Garrard has been released by the Miami Dolphins, leaving Matt Moore as the veteran backup to rookie starter Ryan Tannehill.

Garrard signed in March and climbed atop the depth chart in training camp before he was sidelined by a left knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery Aug. 11. In his absence, Tannehill claimed the starting job for Sunday’s opener at Houston.

CLEVELAND — Joe Haden’s case remains mysterious and unresolved.

The Browns cornerback, and one of Cleveland’s best players, is awaiting word from the NFL on a possible four-game suspension for failing a drug test. On Tuesday, Browns president Mike Holmgren revealed in a local radio interview that Haden has already had his appeal hearing with the league.

Holmgren’s comments were the first confirming Haden’s suspension, which was first reported last month. Haden reportedly failed a test for taking Adderall, which is on the league’s banned substance list.

FOXBORO — Tight end Kellen Winslow will not be joining the Patriots anytime soon after failing his physical.

Winslow, 29, has chronic problems with his knees and was released last week by the Seahawks after reportedly refusing to take a pay cut.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end caught 75 passes last season but only two for touchdowns for the Buccaneers.

Winslow – the sixth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Browns – seriously injured his right knee in a motorcycle accident in 2005. He has had several surgeries on the knee since, including microfracture surgery in 2007.

NEW YORK  — Recently retired running back, LaDainian Tomlinson is moving quickly into his second career.

NFL Network and SiriusXM Radio Inc. announced Wednesday that the 2006 NFL MVP was joining the outlets as a broadcaster.

Tomlinson rushed for 13,684 yards, fifth on the career list, and scored 162 touchdowns, third-most ever. The former Charger and Jet announced his retirement in June.

Tomlinson will appear on NFL Network’s new Sunday morning show, “First on the Field.” He’ll also host weekly shows on NFL news and fantasy football for SiriusXM

RENTON, Wash. — Kellen Winslow was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks in the hopes that along with Zach Miller the duo could become a formidable set of tight ends who could add another element to the Seahawks offense.

Those plans drastically changed on Saturday when Winslow was released by the team, keeping true to the Seahawks’ past form of tinkering with their roster even after all training camp cuts are made.

A team spokesman confirmed Winslow’s release shortly after it was first reported by ESPN.com. Winslow was scheduled to make $3.3 million in base salary in 2012, following his trade from Tampa Bay to Seattle in May.

On Monday, Tampa Bay Buccaneer head coach, Greg Schiano, called 10 players to turn in their playbooks as the team began trimming the roster.

The Bucs successfully reached the 75-man roster limit by the 4 p. m. deadline.

The Bucs put guard Davin Joseph on injured reserve, and defensive end Da’Quan Bowers on reserve/physically unable to perform lists.

The Bucs waived running back De’Anthony Curtis, long snapper, Andrew DePaola, wide receiver, Greg Ellingson, tight end, Collin Franklin, wide receiver, Ed Gant, punter, Eric Guthrie, tackle, Mike Ingersoll, linebacker, Brian Smith, safety, Tramain Thomas, and cornerback, Marquese Wheaton.

Last Thursday, the Bucs waived defensive end Quintin Anderson, wide receiver Armahd Lewis and tackle Mike VanDermeulen.

After Wednesday’s pre-season finale against the Washington Redskins, Schiano will have to trim the roster to the regular season 53-man limit.

The Bucs also announced that top draft pick, running back Doug Martin from Boise State, has successfully taken over as the number one back, a distinction held by LeGarrett Blount.

Also, first round draft pick, safety Mark Barron, has been paired with 16-year veteran, Ronde Barber, and that has had a huge impact on the improvement of the defense.

Well, that was fast. Terrell Owens is no longer on the Seattle Seahawks. The NFL player was picked up by the team a few weeks ago, and released over the weekend, but is remaining optimistic about his future.  “I’m no longer a Seahawk,” Owens tweeted Sunday (Aug. 26). “I THANK the organization 4 the opportunity, I’m truly blessed beyond belief. My FAITH is intact & will NOT waiver.”

PHILADELPHIA — Michael Vick will take his next snap in the season opener for the Philadelphia Eagles. Who replaces him if he gets hurt again remains a question.

Vick is back at practice after leaving last Monday’s game with injured ribs. He didn’t play in Friday’s game at Cleveland, but returned to the field Sunday night for Philadelphia’s annual practice party at Lincoln Financial Field.

”I think he’s real close to 100 percent,” offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said Monday. ”I thought he threw the ball last night just beautifully; threw it strong and aggressively. So, I think he’s ready to rock and roll. That’s my point on that. I think he’s ready to go.”
