The Ravens moved linebacker Ray Lewis from short-term injured reserve to their 53-man roster on Wednesday, reports the NFL’s Gregg Rosenthal.

Lewis tore his triceps in Week 6 against the Cowboys; he began practicing three weeks ago.

Fear not, Steelers fans. Coach Mike Tomlin dismissed Ben Roethlisberger’s post-game comments about Todd Haley’s play-calling and game plan as frustration, but said he met with the Steelers quarterback anyway to make sure “he’s on board with what it is we’re doing.”

A lot of attention has been heaped on Roethlisberger’s comment that Haley’s original play-call on the touchdown pass to Heath Miller at the end of the first half was “not a good call” because of the type of defense the Cowboys showed when Roethlisberger went to the line of scrimmage.

But having a play-call not fit a certain defensive look happens all the time, Tomlin said. Quarterbacks routinely change a play when that happens by calling an audible at the line of scrimmage.

New York Giants wide receiver, Victor Cruz, wrote messages on his cleats and gloves to honor 6-year-old Jack Pinto, one of the 20 young victims gunned down at Sandy Hook elementary last Friday.

Pinto’s family said that the young Giants fan idolized Cruz so much, that they decided to bury his body in Cruz’s No. 80 jersey. When word spread on Twitter that Cruz was one of Pinto’s favorite football stars, the NFL player immediately reached out to the boy’s family on the phone to offer his condolences and to do something special for the fallen fan.

“I was in the hotel and as I was talking to [his family], I was fighting back tears. You could hear everybody in the background crying as well. It was tough to listen to,” Cruz told the New York Daily News.

Michael Vick has not played since Nov. 11 and it could be he doesn’t take another snap in his career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Coach Andy Reid has announced that Nick Foles will start the remaining two games even though Vick has finally been medically cleared to return to action from a concussion. It certainly looks like Reid and Vick will be rolling out of town at the same time. Vick is owed $16.5 million in 2013, likely more than the Eagles and a new coach will want to commit to him.

Vick is handling the demotion with class and knows he will likely find a chance somewhere next season even if it is at a significantly reduced rate.

ASHBURN, VA — Washington Redskins linebacker London Fletcher is blaming security workers at Cleveland Browns Stadium for a confrontation that left four of his relatives arrested and an aunt hospitalized.

Fletcher on Monday said his large family contingent in Redskins gear witnessing his first NFL game in his hometown was harassed by fans, but he said that security that was supposed to diffuse the situation instead became what he called “instigators.” Fletcher said one stadium worker “went overboard with what his job responsibilities were.”

Fletcher said his relatives were still in custody as of Monday afternoon. He said an aunt was hospitalized for “neck injuries” and released. A Cleveland police spokeswoman says six people were arrested on charges including assault on a police officer and aggravated rioting. The Redskins beat the Browns 38-21.

If you are a fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you probably had to turn your television to another station Sunday.

The Bucs didn’t just lose their fourth straight game, but were shut out by NFC South foe, the New Orleans Saints 41-0. The Bucs were never competitive in the game, and couldn’t generate any offense. The ground game didn’t work for Doug Martin, while quarterback Josh Freeman threw four passes to players on the other team.

Perhaps even more disheartening was the failure of the Bucs to generate a pass rush to throw Drew Brees off his game, and the Buccaneer secondary was just taken apart by Brees and the Saints receivers.

The Bucs (6-8) have blown any chance of making the playoffs, and have allowed the two teams that were beneath them in the NFC South, the Saints and the Carolina Panthers, to gain ground and maybe put them in the basement of the NFC South. Sunday’s shutout loss was the fourth in the team’s history, and assures everyone that the Bucs must take next year’s draft seriously and address problems on both sides of the ball.

Remaining for the Bucs are a Sunday contest at home against the St. Louis Rams, then their season finale on the road against the NFC South champs, Atlanta Falcons. Both games are at 1 p. m.

If things weren’t bad enough on the field, they also took a turn for the worse on the sideline.

With the Bucs trailing 10-0, defensive coach, Bryan Cox became irate on the sideline after a flag was thrown on a play. He started yelling, and walking out onto the field. As he ventured onto the field, linebacker Adam Hayward met Cox, and put his arms up to keep the coach from walking onto the field any further. That resulted in Cox knocking away Hayward’s arms, and Hayward retaliating by shoving Cox. The two exchanged words on the sideline, and Buccaneer linebacker, Jacob Cutrera, stepped between the two men to calm things down.

According to insiders, the incident is not likely to cause an ongoing problem between Hayward and Cox.

What was Rob Parker thinking? The sports columnist made headlines for essentially questioning the Blackness of Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin, III because of his white fiancée, Rebecca Liddicoat, while on ESPN’s First Take, among other reasons. The network announced that is has suspended Parker for his comments.

Parker has been suspended indefinitely by the network, which will be conducting a full review controversial, race baiting debate. “I want to find out about him,” said Parker on First Take. “I don’t know, because I keep hearing these things. We all know he has a white fiancée. There was all this talk about he’s a Republican, which, there’s no information [about that] at all. I’m just trying to dig deeper as to why he has an issue. Because we did find out with Tiger Woods; Tiger Woods was like I’ve got Black skin but don’t call me Black. So people got to wondering about Tiger Woods early on.”

Trent Richardson hasn’t been as explosive as Browns (and Crimson Tide) fans were hoping when the running back was taken third overall in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Some point to his happy feet behind the line of scrimmage, his running style not fitting the blocking scheme or whispers of broken ribs. Through all that, Richardson has had no trouble finding pay dirt.

Following a Kirk Cousins interception on the Redskins’ second drive of Sunday’s game that was taken to the six-yard-line by safety T.J. Ward, T-Rich took the next snap into the endzone, breaking the Browns rookie record for rushing touchdowns. His 10th score passes both Jim Brown and Eric Metcalf.

LONDON — Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were honored Tuesday as the International Tennis Federation’s world champions for 2012.

Djokovic won the men’s award for the second straight year, while Williams took the honor for the third time in her career. Djokovic won the Australian Open and was runner-up at the French Open and U.S. Open. He finished the season No. 1 in the ATP rankings with six tour titles.

Williams won Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and the Olympic gold medal. She had a tour-best 58-4 record and seven titles.
