BOSTON — Kevin Garnett walked over to the Boston bench, nursing a sore hip and Celtics coach Doc Rivers asked repeatedly if his big man needed a break. It was going to take more than that to knock Garnett out of the playoffs.

”He’s good. He’s good to go,” Rivers said Wednesday during a conference call with reporters. ”He’ll practice tomorrow, and he’ll play on Friday.”

Garnett appeared to clutch his stomach while going for a rebound early in the fourth quarter, but he wouldn’t let Rivers take him out of the game. ”He got hit in the hip, very similar to having a hip pointer in football. It’s affecting him. I was concerned he was grabbing something else,” Rivers said. ”In a couple timeouts, I was asking if he was OK.”

CLEVELAND — The Cavaliers are bringing back the most successful coach they’ve ever had.

Cleveland officially re-hired Mike Brown on Wednesday, bringing back a coach who guided them to five straight playoff appearances and their only trip to the NBA Finals before he was fired following the 2010 season. Brown agreed in principle to the contract on Tuesday. The sides finalized a deal which brings in the 43-year-old to coach a young team with an All-Star player and plenty of room for improvement – a similar situation to the one Brown inherited in 2005.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Rolando McClain was arrested Sunday night and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in his hometown of Decatur, Ala.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said that police officers had ordered McClain and several other people to leave the park after a large crowd had gathered there. McClain allegedly refused to do so, and began cursing at the officers. Authorities said McClain was eventually handcuffed and taken to the city jail before bonding out a short time later.

This is the second time this year McClain has been arrested in Decatur. In January, he was arrested on charges of violating rules on car window tint and trying to lie to police about his identity. He was also arrested in Decatur in December 2011, when he posed for a memorable picture after being taken into custody.

McClain served a two-game suspension last season for conduct detrimental to the Raiders, who released him earlier this offseason. He signed with the Ravens a week later. The 23-year-old McClain is a former Top 10 NFL Draft pick. He had 62 tackles and one sack in 11 games last season with the Raiders.

University of Florida defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd has overcome many obstacles to make it to this year’s NFL Draft. The Philadelphia native moved from house to house, sometimes not finding anywhere to sleep or anything to eat.

Floyd then moved in with his grandmother. “Just telling me her story and the stuff she had been through when she was young keeps me going and motivated because it was worse than what I had to go through,” Floyd said about his grandmother.

Two years ago, at the age of 20, Floyd was adopted by Kevin Lahn and his wife. Lahn helps run a mentoring program that supplied funds to under-privileged high school athletes.  The organization is not in compliance with NCAA rules, and Floyd was suspended two games while playing for the Gators and required to pay a fine.

This can’t possibly be the closing of a chapter the New York Jets and their followers were hoping to see. It’s seemed inevitable for months, and the franchise was stuck in place until it happened.

But of all the eras that had to end, how does the end of the Darrelle Revis era help them? To spare everybody the drama of searching for an answer to that: It doesn’t. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the deal Sunday, saying Revis agreed to a six-year contract. Revis agents Neil Schwartz and Jon Feinsod confirmed the deal is worth $96 million, with no guaranteed money, but makes him one of the NFL’s highest-paid defensive players. It includes $1.5 million annually in both roster and workout bonuses.

The Jets also receive a conditional fourth-round pick in next year’s draft that will become a third-rounder if Revis is on the Buccaneers’ roster on the third day of the 2014 league year. And the Jets will see Revis in Week 1 of the 2013 season on the opposing sideline when the Buccaneers come to East Rutherford, N.J.

Mike Tannenbaum, the general manager who drafted Revis, is long gone. The honeymoon from the back-to-back trips to the AFC title game is beyond long gone.

The clinics will be at 3 p. m. on the 27th, and 11 a. m. on the 28th. At the request of Four Golf Legends, Incorporated, Charlie Owens, Jim Dent. James Black, and the late Willie Black will be honored. The special guest for the evening will be Calvin Peete (pictured), winner of 12 PGA tour tournaments.

Following the clinic on the 27th will be an awards dinner at the ClubHouse at Rogers Park. After the clinic on the 28th, there will be a fun golf tournament (four man scrabble/shot gun). Golden State Warriors forward David Lee is done for the season after tearing his right hip flexor in last Saturday’s playoff game against the Denver Nuggets.

The loss is huge for the Warriors, who nearly stole Game 1 of their first-round series against the Nuggets but fell 97-95 when Denver point guard Andre Miller hit a layup in the closing seconds. Lee was just 4-for-14 from the field with 10 points and 14 rebounds before suffering the injury in the fourth quarter.

Lee had a phenomenal season, finishing second on the Warriors in scoring (18.5 points per game) while leading them in rebounding (11.2 per game) and earning a spot on the All-Star team.

Atlanta Falcons safety William Moore is in trouble with the law.

Moore was arrested and charged with simple battery Thursday, according to Fulton County jail records. Tracy Flanagan, public affairs officer at the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, later confirmed the arrest and charge. Moore’s first appearance hearing is at Fulton County Jail at 11 a.m. on Friday. No bond was set.

“We are aware of the situation involving William Moore and are in the process of gathering more information,” the Falcons said in a statement. “Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time.” The details surrounding the charge are unknown at this time. The arrest comes a month after Moore, 27, signed a five-year, $30 million contract extension with the Falcons.

A second-round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, Moore started 12 games last season, finishing with 105 tackles and four interceptions. The performance earned Moore his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

Moore has had no prior issues with the law in his four years in the NFL.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Golden State’s Stephen Curry set a record for 3-pointers in a season when he hit his 270th in the second quarter of the Warriors’ game Wednesday night against the Trail Blazers.

The shot with 6:49 left in the half put Curry in front of Ray Allen’s mark of 269 set in 2005-06.

He made 16 3-pointers in the previous two games to close within one of Allen’s record set with the Seattle SuperSonics. Curry hit his first 3 of the night with 6:55 to go in the first quarter.

Golden State’s bench jumped to cheer following the record-breaking shot, and a group of Warriors fans behind the team’s bench at the Rose Garden gave Curry an extended standing ovation.

His dad, Dell Curry, was a teammate of Allen’s in Milwaukee during the 1998-99 season – when the elder Curry shot a career-best 47.6 percent from 3-point range while making 69 from beyond the arc.
