Two men were arrested Wednesday after a bicyclist was injured by gunfire. Both men are facing attempted murder charges.

According to police, 30-year-old Antonio Jordan (pictured, left) was riding his bicycle southbound on Clifford Sample Drive shortly before 2 p.m., Wednesday. As Jordan reached the intersection of Clifford Sample Drive and Sample Court, a 1995 Toyota Camry, traveling northbound slowed down.

The passenger then reportedly fired at least 7 rounds from a .45 caliber handgun at Jordan. Jordan was struck in the back of the head by bullet fragments. He was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The two suspects in the vehicle fled northbound on Clifford Sample Drive and then turned east on Causeway Blvd.

A witness observed the shooting and followed the Toyota. The two men parked the vehicle behind the Brahman Lounge, 9425 Causeway Blvd. They then went to the WaWa Store at the intersection of Causeway Blvd., and Highway 301.

The witness contacted a friend who located the two suspects at the store and contacted police. Both men were detained at the store, police said.

As a result of their investigation, police arrested 20-year-old Marcus O’Neal (pictured, right), of Lakeland, and charged him with one count of attempted murder. He is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail without bond.

Alberto Joshua Torres, 19, of Tampa, was also arrested. Torres was charged with one count of attempted murder and grand theft of an automobile. The Toyota had been reported stolen out of Lakeland. He is also being held without bond at the Hillsborough County Jail.

Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting to determine what led up to it
