FRATERNITY ENDS MENTORING PROGRAM
WITH AWARDS CEREMONY
Recently, member of Pi Iota Chapter, of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., held their end-of-year mentoring program with an awards ceremony. The awards ceremony was held at Just Elementary School on June 2, 2016. The young men earned awards ranging from footballs to bicycles for their participation in the Fraternity’s Gentlemen’s Challenge. The Challenge included such acts as opening doors for young ladies and just being a gentleman in the community. BROTHERS UNITED HOSTS FATHER2SON CONVERSATION
Several men in the community joined Jalem Robinson, founder of Brothers United Building Brothers Alliance (BUBBA), last Saturday for the third session in a series of “Father2Son: Crucial Conversations.” The event was held at Hillsborough Community College Ybor Campus. Robinson is a graduate of the University of South Florida and a native of Progress Village. The third session, “What Now,” provided a resource fair, panel discussion and inspirational speakers. SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY HONORS OLDEST, ACTIVE MEMBER
The Senior Adult Ministry (SAM) of Allen Temple AME Church observed their 21st Anniversary on Sunday, May 29, 2016, during the 10 a. m. service. The highlight of the service was honoring its oldest, active member, Sister Voncile Dry. Sister Dry, seated center, is 109 years old and affectionately known as “Aunt Vonnie.” She is a member of Mt. KAPPA SILHOUETTES RECOGNIZE GWEN MILLER, DONATE BOOKS TO CENTER BEARING HER NAME
The Tampa Chapter of the Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. recognized retired educator and former Tampa City Councilwoman Gwendolyn (Gwen) Miller for her work with the national auxiliary (Immediate Past National President) by donating books to the center in East Tampa that bears her name – the Gwendolyn Miller Community Center. The Tampa Silhouettes donated hundreds of books to the center. Book donations came from all over, including textbook publishers in Orlando and from Ft. Washington, Maryland. THE TAMPA CHAPTER OF THE LINKS TREATS ROYAL JEWELS TO MOTHER-DAUGHTER TEA
The Tampa Chapter of the Links, Incorporated featured their Royal Jewels at Paul L. Sheehy, M. D. Elementary School at the annual Mother-Daughter Tea recently. For several months, a part of the girls’ mentoring has included learning about the history of tea etiquette and rehearsing and memorizing their parts for their moms. This year Link Allison Clebert chaired the elaborate event, held at Tampa Park Plaza Community Center. Link Evelyn Bethune was the Co-Chair. Members of the chapter dressed tables in lively spring colors with the actual tea sets, china, stemware and silverware. The Jewels presented a program for their mothers and Link members. Top Ladies of Distinction recently held their annual Ladies Luncheon at the Embassy Suites in Brandon. FAMU’S PRESIDENT HAS CONVERSATION WITH ALUM AND SUPPORTERS
FAMU President, Dr. Elmira Mangum was in Tampa on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, for an Exclusive Conversation with alumni and supporters of the school. She gave her vision for FAMU and those in attendance joined the discussion about future opportunities and goals.

NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS HOLD
INAUGURAL MEETING AT HIGH SCHOOL
Recently, Mrs. Kim Moore, Principal of Middleton High School, hosted an organizational meeting for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). The purpose of the meeting was to launch an inaugural junior chapter of the organization on the campus of a local high school. Members of the National Society of Black Engineers, Tampa Bay Professional Chapter were on hand to explain the organization to the students.
