FOSTER CHILDREN, AT-RISK FAMILIES SERVED TRADITIONAL THANKSGIVING DINNER

 

Donatello’s Restaurant hosted its 30th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner last Thursday. The dinner benefited 1,000 foster children and at-risk families. In addition to the meal, each child, ranging in age from infant to 18-year-olds, received a special gift. Kitty Daniels and Majid Shibazz provided holiday music, while athletes signed autographs, and character actors dressed in costumes to make the holiday more enjoyable. SURPRISE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION FOR 85-YEAR-OLD MOTHER

 

Over 100 family members and friends attended the surprise birthday party for Ms. Hattie Byrd “Madea” White, who turned 85 years young! The “Big” Surprise was seeing her granddaughter, Dr. JaMia L. Washington of Cleveland, Ohio; nephew, Bob (Linda) Davis and son, Jamal, former co-workers from County Hospital, Allen Temple AME Church members/Senior Ministry, Williams Park Senior Ministry, friends, and being serenaded by Saxophonist, Marcus Boothe. A POSITIVE IMAGE COMMITTEE PRESENTS $10,000 TO 4 ORGANIZATIONS

 

A Positive Image Committee presented a total of $10,000 to four organizations. The committee held its ‘Unity in the Community’ event last month for the public in Centennial Park. Checks were presented to the organizations earlier this week. CHARTERING CEREMONY HELD FOR BLACK WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION

 

The National Association of Black Women In Construction (NABWIC) held a chartering ceremony on Thursday, November 10, 2016, for the NW Chapter, covering the Tampa Bay Area. The noon ceremony was held at Nova Southeastern University. The Robert W. Saunders Library Foundation and the Robert W. Saunders Library presented its Black History Experience ‘Lamp of Knowledge’ Award to the Pi Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The presentation was Monday evening, November 7, 2016, at the Saunders Library. The presentation was a part of the Chapter’s Achievement Week celebration, which included observing its 50th Anniversary.
