The teen group mentored by the Tampa Chapter of the Links, Inc., the Radiant Jewels at Van Buren Middle School were treated to a field trip to see the movie, ‘Hidden Figures’ recently. The Tampa Links financed the field trip, and thanks to the management at Movie Studio Grill at University Mall, who opened the theater 2 hours early, as well as had staff come in to serve the teens lunch, the Radiant Jewels got the ultimate experience.
The Radiant Jewels who are all 8th graders, have been mentored in the STEAM, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) curriculum by the Links since the beginning of the school year. The STEAM curriculum was developed and has been facilitated by The Arts facet chair and co-chair, Links Casey Curry and Kendra Frorup. The movie was an extension to the training about how the Arts mix with STEM to create most things in the world. The teens were required to write an essay about the movie.
