HART HOSTS RECEPTION FOR ITS RETIREES

Hillsborough Area Regional Transit (HART) held a reception for its retirees to share time together and enjoy refreshments. The reception was held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Library. HART CEO, Katharine Eagan was there to personally greet the retirees. SOUTHWESTERN JURISDICTION COGIC HOSTS 50^th HOLY CONVOCATION

Bishop Matthew Williams, Jurisdictional Prelate, General Board Member, COGIC and Pastor, Brown Memorial COIGIC, and his congregation hosted the 50^th Anniversary of the Southwestern Jurisdiction COGIC Holy Convocation. Several speakers and teachers of the Church of God in Christ were in town to participate, February 18, 20-26, 2017. 4^th ANNUAL SUIT UP AND SHOW UP INITIATIVE HELD

The   Corporation To Develop Communities of Tampa (CDC), Inc. held its 4^th Annual “Suit Up and Show Up” Initiative on Friday, February 24^th.. The event was held at the Hillsborough Community College Ybor Campus, 2001 N. 14^th Street, in the Student Services Building. Each young man who attended the event received a business suit. The teen group mentored by the Tampa Chapter of the Links, Inc., the Radiant Jewels at Van Buren Middle School were treated to a field trip to see the movie, ‘Hidden Figures’ recently. The Tampa Links financed the field trip, and thanks to the management at Movie Studio Grill at University Mall, who opened the theater 2 hours early, as well as had staff come in to serve the teens lunch, the Radiant Jewels got the ultimate experience.

The Radiant Jewels who are  all 8th graders, have been mentored in the STEAM, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) curriculum by the Links since the beginning of the school year. The STEAM curriculum was developed and has been facilitated by The Arts facet chair and co-chair, Links Casey Curry and Kendra Frorup. The movie was an extension to the training about how the Arts mix with STEM to create most things in the world. The teens were required to write an essay about the movie.

Pastor Al Baldwin was the Master of Ceremonies for the ‘Stop The Violence’ Gospel Concert Night at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Rev, Larry Mouton, Jr., Because of the number of violent incidents among young people that have been occurring, the community was invited to attend the event on Friday, January 20, 2017, to enjoy some gospel music. Among the groups who presented at the concert was: the Brotherhood of New Hope: 1st row: Art Akins, Oscar Young, Michael Wyche, Pastor Larry J. Mouton, Jr., Oliver Crawford, and James Richardson. AN EPIC READING OF REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.’S ‘LETTER FROM A BIRMINGHAM JAIL’

The Robert W. Saunders Branch Library was the site of an Epic Reading of Dr. King’s Letter From A Birmingham Jail. The event was held on Monday, January 30, 2017, in partnership with Young Performing Artists, Inc. Among the eloquent readers who participated were: Doris Joe, Joyce Cotton, Sally Holt Smith, Ouida Hilton, Harriet Ellington, Marilyn Jackson, Ersula Odom and Dr. Marilyn Loblack. FRANK SHELLMAN CELEBRATES HIS 90^th BIRTHDAY

Mr. Frank Shellman was joined by his family and friends last Sunday as they celebrated his 90^th birthday. The family gathering was at the Outback Steakhouse to celebrate the event. He was showered with many useful gifts.
