TAMPA POLICE DISTRICT III MEETS WITH TAMPA PARK APARTMENTS

After a rash of drive-by shootings, that led to arrests, the major, captain and officers of District III held a meeting with the owners, management, security, resident captains and residents of the Tampa Park Apartments to share the strategy and implementation of plans to have a Safe Summer Campaign. The law enforcement officials met with the Tampa Park principles along with the president of the NAACP at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Branch Library on Tuesday, June 12^th. The meeting was very productive. CITY OF TAMPA BLACK HISTORY COMMITTEE PRESENTS $16,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS

             The City of Tampa Black History Committee presented $16,000 in scholarships to the 2018 graduates. Over the past 21 years, the group has awarded $201,000 in scholarships.  The Awards Ceremony was held at the Holiday Inn Express, Westshore Blvd.  This year’s theme was: “”Reflecting On Our Past, Moving Towards TheFuture. MEN OF VISION HONORS ‘LEGENDS AND GAMECHANGERS’

            Recently, the Men of Vision, Inc., Service ogranization held its 12^th Annual Academic Awards Ceremony at TPepin Hospitality Centre. More than 100 members of the organization were recognized, including 44 graduating seniors for their academic and community service. The young men were the recipients of more than $20,000 in scholarships. Alumni member Wildens Cajuste, Class of 2016, and recent graduate of Florida A & M University, delivered the Keynote Address. Members of the community who were honored as “Legends and Gamechangers” in attendance were, from left to right: James Cole; Henry “Shake” Washington, retired School Administrator; retired Tampa Police Chief Eric Ward; Thomas Forward, recently retired Tampa Fire Chief; and Jeff Eakins, Hillsborough County School District Superintendent.  MRS. DELORES ‘DEE’ WILLIAMS CELEBRATES 80^thBIRTHDAY

              Mrs. Delores “Dee” Williams was the guest of honor recently when family and friends hosted an 80^thbirthday celebration for her. The event was held at the Seminole Heights Family Life Center.  Planners for the event were her daughters: Antionette Shepherd and Adriane Blanchett.             These proud Middleton High School Honor graduates are all-smiles after they received their diplomas on May 25^that the Florida State Fairgrounds. They were among approximately 420 students to graduate from Middleton. The Valedictorians were:  Magnet, Aashish Thoutam and Traditional, Taylor Dansby. KRUNK FOR CHRIST HOSTS 3^RD ANNUAL MOTHER’S DAY BANQUET

        Krunk For Christ held its 3^rdAnnual Mother’s Day Banquet Extravaganza on the eve of Mother’s Day. The event was held in the Life Center of New Hope M. B. Church. Emcees for the evening were: Corey Felton, Howard Word and Tamara Shamburger. Bishop Michelle B. Patty presented awards to many of those responsible for the success of the event. TAMPA CITY COUNCIL PRESENTS COMMENDATION TO RETIRING FIRE CHIEF

       Thursday morning, the Tampa City Council presented a commendation and plaque to retiring Fire Chief, Tom Forward, for his 35 years of service to the community. Chief Forward officially retires on May 20, 2018. Joining him at City Council Chambers were: Brandi Lockett, niece; Lakia Forward, daughter; Mrs. Cynthia Forward; Chief Forward, Marty Forward, son; Chelsea, Farrell; and Thomas Forward, II, (Deace), son.
