INAUGURAL PRAYER BREAKFAST HELD

         Tabitha Court No. 15, Heroines of Jericho, PHA, held their Inaugural Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, March 10, 2018. The event was held at the Hillsborough County Children’s Board.  The speaker for the morning was Rev. Lynnette Barrett, of St. James AME Church, Progress Village. Those in attendance included: from left, Byron Johnson, Tawanda Peoples, Iris Warren, Andreatha Nurse, Bessie Thomas, Agnes Turner, Rev. Lynnette Barrett, guest speaker; Dr. Bertha Baker, Greta Powell, Betty Baker, and Gail Williams.

CONGRESSWOMAN KATHY CASTOR RECOGNIZES

 3 WOMEN 

U. S. Representative Kathy Castor (14th District of Florida) recognized three women during Black History Month. The women were celebrated for the extraordinary contributions they have made as National and Tampa Bay leaders. The special ceremony was held at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library on February 21, 2018. Women recognized were: Joli Cooper-Nelson, National President of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.; Carolyn House Stewart, Esquire, Immediate Past President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and Dr. Paulette C. Walker, Immediate Past President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. AT&T HONORS SEVEN COMMUNITY LEADERS


Last month, during the UNCF Annual Luncheon, AT&T honored 7 community leaders at the Tampa Marriott Westshore.  The segment of the program was entitled
“History By Us,” and it highlighted African Americans in the Tampa Bay Area who have made an impact on their respective communities. Shown from left are: Edwin Narain, AT&T Regional Director; Joseph and Norma Robinson, founders of The Sulphur Springs Museum and Heritage Center Museum; Rev. RECEPTION FOR MLK DAY OF SERVICE RECIPIENTS

                  Through a grant spearheaded by Attorney Darryl Rouson through the Florida Legislature, residents in the Tampa/St. Petersburg community have been able to do more than take the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday as a Day Off. The motto of the MLK Day of Service is, ‘A Day On Not A Day Off.’ In the Tampa community, Hillsborough Community College with Dr. Joan Holmes has been the administrator for the MLK Day Of Service. Dr. Samuel L. Wright, Sr. has been the consultant. On Thursday, February 22, 2018, a reception was held for the many organizations and individuals that participated. HIDDEN FIGURES: HONORING TRAILBLAZERS IN TAMPA BAY

         The United States District Court Middle District of Florida – Tampa Division hosted a celebration, entitled, “Hidden Figures: Honoring Trailblazers in Tampa Bay.” Hosted by the Historical, Education, and Public Outreach Committee, the program was held on February 8, 2018, in the Floridan Palace Hotel, Downtown Tampa. Several Distinguished Trailblazers of Tampa Bay were recognized. Among them were from left: Atty. Warren Hope Dawson, Justice Peggy Quince, Atty. Susan Johnson-Velez, Atty. Carolyn House Stewart, Atty. Delano Stewart and Atty. Arthenia Joyner. Each received the copy of a portrait inspired by Charlotte E.
