NEW ST. PAUL AME CHURCH HOSTS WOMEN’S MISSIONARY SOCIETY PROGRAM
Several women of the 11th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church were in service at New St. Paul AME Church for their Women’s Missionary Society Program. CHURCH HOSTS FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY FOR COMMUNITY
Life In Christ Community Church, under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Randall and his wife, Linda Randall, hosted its Family and Friends Day event on the grounds of the church, 97thStreet and 26thAvenue. STEWART MIDDLE MAGNET SCHOOL HONORS BELOVED STAFFER
Stewart Middle Magnet School held a Memorial Service for one of its beloved staffers on September 23, 2019. Darryl Beasley, Guidance Counselor who had touched many lives, passed away recently. Dr. Baretta Wilson, Principal, said the school planted a tree and placed a grave marker on the campus in honor of Mr. Beasley on his birthday. The grave marker was donated by Teryl Aikens of Mona Lisa Monuments. POLICE CHIEF PRESENTS GRANTS TO NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
Recently, Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan presented several grants to various not-for-profit organizations in the community. The recipients ranged from those working with at-risk students to those shaping and molding the next generation of leaders. Chief Dugan presented members of the Dr. Martin Luther king Parade Foundation Leadership Academy a grant in the amount of $1,500. The organization plans to utilize the funding to highlight activities that focus on the principles of non-violence, positive interactions, and public speaking. AESTHETICS AND BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE HAS TREE LIGHTING MEETING
With the Christmas holidays just a couple of months away, the East Tampa Community Revitalization Partnership’s Aesthetics and Beautification Committee held its first meeting on September 18, 2019, to kick off the 2019 Tree Lighting Ceremony. Denese Meteye-James, chairperson, says the committee is accepting donations to support the 400 draw string bags that Santa will be giving out this year. Since this is a family event, the committee needs more than toys and other supplies for the bag. AT&T DONATES $25,000 TO CDC OF TAMPA, INC.
Recently, the Corporation to Develop Communities, Inc., (CDC of Tampa, Inc.), hosted its Prom 2.o at Amalie Arena’s FireStick Grill. The event was a 1980s theme benefit hosted by the organization’s Youth Leadership Movement Program (YLM). During the event Ed Narain, Director of External Affairs at AT&T, and former member of the Florida House of Representatives, surprised party goers with the presentation of a $25,000 check to support the seniors as they explore post-secondary options for their futures. PETER CLAVER STUDENTS OBSERVE GRANDPARENTS’ DAY
Nationally, Grandparents’ Day was observed on Sunday, September 8, 2019. The students at St. Peter Claver Catholic School held a program at the school a few days earlier to honor grandparents. The program’s theme was “Grandparents Fill The World With Love.” The children sang a variety of songs, danced and read poetry. Tampa City Councilman Orlando Gudes attended the program.
