FORMER COMMUNITY RESIDENT HOSTS LUNCHEON FOR B&G Club

                    

      Kenyon Phillips, with the assistance of Big John’s Alabama BBQ, hosted a “Community Give-Back Luncheon” that fed 150 families at the Wilbert Davis Boys and Girls Club. Phillips coordinated this event to show his appreciation to the community where he grew up – College Hill/Ponce de Leon area. Kenyon is co-owner of Counter Threat Protection Security, in collaboration with Home Builders Institute, Big John’s Alabama BBQ, and the Wilbert Davis Boys and Girls Club. COMMUNITY MEMORIAL WALK FOR AHMAUD ARBERY

 

          The leaders of Allen Temple AME Church, New Salem Primitive Baptist Church, The Tampa Bay Coalition of Clergy and Hillsborough County Branch NAACP were joined by several other community leaders in a Memorial Vigil for Ahmaud Arbery, “Clergy Collars and Tennis Shoes.” The walk on Saturday, May 16th at noon, started at Allen Temple AME Church and concluded at New Salem PB Church.    Prior to the ‘Stay-At-Home’ orders from the City and County, a group of ladies gathered in March at the Hilton Hotel – Lois Avenue for a workshop. JAMEIS WINSTON DONATES $30,000 TO CDC TO HELP LOCAL RESTAURANTS

                 

                  Jameis Winston donated $30,000 to the Corporation to Develop Communities (CDC) of Tampa, Inc. The funds are distributed to 8 area restaurants that will prepare 500 meals each over 4 weekends, concluding on May 23, 2020. The first events were Saturday, May 2nd at Open Café in East Tampa and Konan’s BBQ in the Carver City/Lincoln Gardens community.                   Some chefs and businessowners came together on Saturday, April 18, 2020, to distribute meals to the community. They wore their masks and gloves and were distanced from the people. Brown’s Catering set up its catering service on the corner of 26th Street and 12th Ave., and passed out meals to anyone who came up.  Tampa Bay Buccaneer Jameis Winston teamed with WWE star Titus O’Neil (Thaddeus Bullard of the Bullard Foundation) to donate $50,000 to Metropolitan Ministries. During the first week in February, a Tampa honor student visited Tallahassee for a week. Miss Ava S. Hargrett was given the opportunity to experience government at work serving as a Page for the Florida Legislature. As a constituent of State Representative Fentrice Driskell, Ava was chosen to participate in the Page/Messenger Program. During her visit, Ava authored and presented a Mock Bill as part of the legislative exercises in which the youngsters participated. In this photograph, Ava is shown with her grandfather, Senator James Hargrett, Jr., who served as her chaperone during her visit, Ava, and State Representative Fentrice Driskell.
