MILES COLLINS CELEBRATES GRADUATION WITH HIS COUSINS

  

     Miles Collins (center, holding bouquet of roses) graduated Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He was joined by his parents, aunts, uncles and first cousins, who came from far and near for the celebration.      Professional athletes from around the country came to the Bay Area April 29th, to participate in the annual golf tournament hosted by Derrick Brooks Charities. Proceeds from the event support the many programs under Derrick Brooks Charities.      Rev. Larry L. Roundtree, II, and his family celebrated his 11th anniversary as pastor of New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Tampa, FL, Inc. Last Friday, April 19, 2024, the anniversary was celebrated with a semi-formal banquet. The theme was “Love, Laughter and Loyalty.” Minister DeRon Graham was the Master of Ceremonies.       The NAACP Hillsborough County Branch held its Inaugural Health EXPO and Community Olympics last weekend. With support from over 30 community partners, the Health EXPO and Community Olympics was held at the headquarters on N. 40th Street. POPULAR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION PRESENTS STEM SCHOLARSHIP TO SPOTO STUDENT

POPULAR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION PRESENTS STEM SCHOLARSHIP TO SPOTO STUDENT

  

     A popular, relatively new non-profit organization presented a $4,700 STEM scholarship to a Spoto High School student. The Slingshots of Tampa Bay, currently led by Gabriel Solomon, started about 5 years ago with 7 members. Now they’re up to 1,200 members. A few weeks ago, they presented their first Trenton Card STEM Scholarship, in memory of Card, who majored in Math. The student was selected by the principal and staff of Spoto High.      The Urban League of Hillsborough County held its March Forth Annual Gala on Saturday, March 9th. The “Roaring Twenties” event was held at Red Door No. 5.       The Inaugural Heart & Soul Weekend Be The Beat Ball was held Saturday, February 24th, at Ybor Square. Events to bring attention to heart health disparities in Tampa’s African American communities were held February 23rd through February 25th.
