The Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc. (CDC) held its 20th Year Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 with a luncheon at the downtown Hyatt Regency Hotel. FIRST BLACK PRE-TRIAL SERVICES OFFICER IN TAMPA DIVISION RETIRES

Last week was kind of bitter sweet for Ms. Cynthia F. Myers. Friday, September 28, 2012 was her last day of work; she’s retiring. But then, she was saddened to leave the people she has worked with for the last 21 years. Ms. Myers began her career with the United States Pre-Trial Services Agency on June 3, 1991. She was the first Black Pre-Trial Services Officer hired in the Tampa Division. A retirement celebration was held for her last Friday in the Federal Building. Several U. S. and Magistrate Judges, Federal Public Defenders, U. S. Deputy Marshals, Department of Corrections Officers and various law enforcement officers, treatment vendor providers, family and friends attended the event. COMMUNITY HONORS RETIRING POLICE MAJOR WITH SURPRISE PARADE

    Last Thursday, more than 100 members of the community secretly planned a celebration for Major Gerald Honeywell, Commander of Uniform District III. The retirement celebration, which was preceded by a parade, took place at Middleton High School. Those on hand to wish him well included members of the community, co-w0rkers, and representatives from city and county government. USF BLACK FACULTY AND STAFF ASSOCIATION HOSTS ANNUAL WELCOME BREAKFAST

Last week, the Black Faculty and Staff Association at the University of South Florida hosted their Annual Welcome Breakfast. The event was held at the Marshall Center Ballroom on campus. After breakfast, the Black Faculty and Staff Association presented a scholarship to Ms. Latoya Edwards, and Longevity Awards to Dr. Richard and Dr. Diane Briscoe. New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Of Hillsborough County, Inc., celebrated the 17th Pastoral Anniversary of Rev. Dr. T. W. Jenkins and First Lady Vera Jenkins, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, (September 7-9, 2012).  The theme for the occasion was “Faithful, Fearless, Focused:  Fulfilling The Promise To Lead God’s People,” Mark 5:36. MEN OF VISION TAKE FIRST FIELD TRIP OF ACADEMIC YEAR

Recently, members of the Men of Vision Mentoring organization recently took their first field trip for this academic year. The young men visited the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) to see the “Mummies of the World” Exhibition. Ross Anderson created the organization several years ago and it now has chapters on middle school and high school campuses. The young men who went on the field trip are on the front row: Master Williamson and Jordan Hudson, Van Buren Middle School; and Joel Elkanah, Steinbrenner High School. MIDDLETON’S CLASS OF 1971 WORSHIPS AT ALLEN TEMPLE AME CHURCH

The Middleton Class of 1971 supports each other in whatever manner they can. They gather often to reminisce, share good and not so good times, brag about their children and grandchildren and discuss issues of the day. The group even worships together. They worshipped at Allen Temple AME Church on Sunday, August 26th, and afterwards the group had a special “Praise and Fellowship Hour.” Carrie Williams presided and all members present participated in this great fellowship.
