YOUNG MEN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NATIONAL SIGNING DAY

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 was National Signing Day for a variety of sports. Although more focus is put on football signees, there are others who bask in National Signing Day.

BISHOP RICHARDSON RETURNS TO HIS FIRST ASSIGNMENT TO WORSHIP

The Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Bishop Adam J. Richardson, was in town last weekend to spend time with the ‘Tremendous Tampa District.’ A native of Tampa, he hosted a conference, ‘A Conversation with the Bishop on Pastoral Ministry, Leadership Training and Empowerment Institute.’ He was also the guest of honor for a luncheon and a banquet. On Sunday morning, the Bishop and his wife, Supervisor Connie S. Richardson, worshipped at the first church he was assigned to, Mt. Pleasant AME Church, Odessa. Reverend Karen J. Sims is the pastor. Supervisor Connie Richardson was the speaker. CLUB 44 CELEBRATES SECOND INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

Since its inception in 2009, Club 44 has work diligently for the causes of President Barack Obama. The members of the organization worked even harder this past election season to insure that he would return to the White House. The organization contributed more than 1,800 volunteer hours as well as made financial donations.  To celebrate the 2nd inauguration, Club 44 held its Presidential Affair in Traditions Hall at the USF Alumni Center. TOBA’S BREAKFAST SPEAKER AIMS TO LIFT THE ORGANIZATION

Attorney Delano S. Stewart was the guest speaker Monday for the 33rd Annual Tampa Organization of Black Affairs (TOBA) Leadership Breakfast. He told those in attendance that his aim is to lift the organization so that it can become an organization for ‘all’ of the affairs of Tampa. Atty. Stewart, a co-founder of the organization back in 1979 along with Atty. Bob Morrison and David McQuay, CPA, told the audience to lift, love and make somebody’s life better. FREDDIE SOLOMON MEMORIAL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

On Friday, January 11, 2013, Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners and others honored Freddie Solomon with a memorial birthday celebration and designation of a building at Nuccio Park. Friday was Solomon’s birthday and the building at Nuccio Park will now be known as the Freddie Solomon Community Center. Solomon was a college and professional football star and 20-year employee of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. He passed away in February 2012.  Among those who attended the celebration were: in front, Jasmyn Robinson, Dee Solomon (his widow), Trey Robinson, Christine Robinson and Mae Jeffers. The group started the year with a cruise in March.
